6 Dating Tips for Men: Online or Offline

Article Presented by:

There are thousands of "How to's" to get Miss Right. Despite that availability of advice, more men are desperate to find someone to love.

Men have a different psychological make up, as compared to women. Their emotional build is directly related to physical attractions. Due to their focus on physical attraction, sometimes they are too aggressive even in their dating lives. Their aggressiveness may signal a negative behavior that concerns most women.

Those men who are aggressive in a dating situation are more likely to be disappointed later, when she refuses to return his phone calls. Disappointments may lead to depression and low self-esteem, which frequently leads to even worse behavior by those fellows looking for love.

Many men look for Ms. Right at the office, church, school, in their neighborhood, or on the Internet. The following tips may help you attract and keep the woman of your dreams:

1. Keep it cool. If you like a woman, do not be too forward. Girls usually become more defensive when a man is really aggressive. Even if she likes you, she will never respond positively to overt aggression. As to online dating, never say that you love or want to marry the girl too soon. Women are smart. (Guys have seen this from "women" too.) Many have learned that the person who jumps too quickly to love or marriage is likely a con man or con woman looking to make a score, or someone who is simply desperate, which frequently indicates that there is a good reason why that person is still alone.

2. Take time. Girls prefer if a man is sincere and genuine. Girls' sense if a man is hypocritical and egoistic. There may be attraction during the first meeting, but you should value the respect that you can give and she expects. Listen to what her sentiments are. Ask questions that would make her feel important. Be interested. Be real.

3. Look beyond the packaging. Do not look at women as somebody who will fulfil your physical needs only. Women want to be accepted as they are first, and as they could be in the future. Women are rightfully wary of men who are keen to take advantage. Women must protect themselves from a world full of dangerous people. Women naturally seek a relationship, rather than a roll in the hay, and a relationship requires respect going two ways, from you-to-her and her-to-you.

4. You only have one chance to make a good first impression. When you have finally agreed to meet physically for a traditional date or a casual one, give a good impression. NEVER wear a sloppy outfit, let alone wear slippers to your date. Women will generally spend a lot of time getting ready for a date; in fact, they might have even gone to beauty shop to get their hair done earlier in the day. If she took great care to fix herself up for you, and you did not take any time to prepare yourself for her, she will be insulted. This does not mean that you can never be yourself on that first date, but if you want to leave her with a good impression, you should invest in yourself as much as what she will invest in herself.

5. Be caring. The one thing that would make a woman think about you the whole night after your date is when you successfully made her believe and sense that she was in your mind the whole time you were together. Stories and thoughts that revolve around your discussion should be focused on her most of the time. Of course, kindhearted women will initiate to change topics and know more about you as well. Just be careful not to talk about yourself too much. Once you take the time to understand that everyone's favorite topic is his or her self, then you will find yourself prepared to talk about her favorite topic, leaving her with the impression that you care more about her than you.

6. Be creative and exciting. The last thing women will want you to be is boring. If you are, the woman's mind will wander to other things more interesting than you. She might think that her time was better spent feeding the dog than talking to you. Be creative. Be spontaneous. Make the girl happy. Remember again that she might just appreciate you more, when you have actually invested more into your date with her than any other man has ever done with her.

The best way to get a woman's favor whether online or in person is to see how she sees things without compromising your own perceptions and values as well. Be a man. Be brave enough that to care for the woman and show respect to her. Show her how you can look outside of yourself to put the importance and focus on her and your relationship with her.

Lessons in Business Naming from Newspaper Headlines

Article Presented by:
Copyright © 2009 Marcia Yudkin

Two headlines in the "Home" section of my local newspaper caught my eye the other day: "Natural floors can be knotty and nice" and "Serving cheese with ease." Both headlines involve enjoyable wordplay of the sort that could easily figure in business names or tag lines. I can imagine "KnottyandNice.com" as the domain name for a wooden items crafts shop, and "Cheese with ease" as the tag line for a cheese lovers' online community.

So I went looking for some tips on writing news headlines, thinking they might offer valuable insights for naming, too. After all, news editors need to come up with informative, catchy headers numerous times every workday.

Even more challenging, their headers need to fit the available space. They need to be able to condense or stretch an idea's expression, depending on how many columns an article spreads across.

My Google search didn't quickly turn up any such tips, though. Maybe headline writing is an art passed on in secret by grizzled, ink-stained veterans during the midnight shift.

Nevertheless, by pondering a couple of dozen headlines, I was able to observe several key points.

1. Newspaper headline writers collect short, vivid verbs, such as "mines" ("Obama mines small, red states"), "stirs," "pushes," "clings," "set," "edges," "sparks," "tosses," "sees," "OKs" and much more. Not only can headlines with verbs tell a complete story, they convey energy.

Because verbs are frequently overlooked as an element in naming, these punchy little words can help you come up with a trademarkable name or a free domain in a competitive industry.

2. Long, vivid words can also come in handy. In the headline "Super Bowl party can be gastronomical success," the word "gastronomical" rescues the line from dullness. It's a wonderful word that could be tweaked in a zillion creative ways for a company name or tag line.

The lesson: long, vivid words can help you convey a complicated idea concisely, as long as your average customer has an inkling of their meaning.

3. Short, vivid words come in useful, too. Take a look at the word "ire" in the headline "Delay in polar bear decision draws ire of Senate." This is another kind of word that most people understand yet probably wouldn't think to use.

4. Combined cleverly, ordinary words can please inordinately. Besides the rhyme in "cheese with ease" and the homonym in "knotty and nice," I also found "Hoops and hollers" atop a photo of kids cheering at a basketball game, which illustrates alliteration - the repetition of initial letters or sounds.

Another headline, "Bush comes clean with former addicts," used an expression with two meanings that both tie in with the subject matter - George W. Bush talking openly about his former drinking problem.

All in all, your newspaper can serve as a source of instruction and inspiration for naming. Just make sure you screen out bloopers like these, which have actually appeared in newspapers:

  • Blind Woman Gets New Kidney from Dad she Hasn't Seen in Years

  • Grandmother of Eight Makes Hole in One

  • Quarter of a Million Chinese Live on Water

  • Stolen Painting Found by Tree

  • Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim

  • Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges

  • Iraqi Head Seeks Arms

  • Kids Make Nutritious Snacks

    Twitter Marketing Explored

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Trey Pennewell

Twitter is growing by leaps and bounds as people begin to appreciate its clean and easy-to-use interface. Twitter, at this point, does not look like one of the many flash-in-the-pan Internet applications that we have seen in times' past.

Twitter's 140 character micro-blogging platform has gained a lot of traction, as individuals and business people have learned to bring together their friends, family and customers under a communications platform that all users find useful.

Mom and dad find it easier to keep up with the lives of their grown children through Twitter. The fact that Twitter allows people to link to other web pages makes Twitter a simple platform to share thoughts, ideas, and links to stories and pictures. Grandma and granddad find it easy to check in on the kids' Twitter account and to maintain daily contact with those across town and around the world.

Friends can make plans and share common interests through the Twitter world. One can reply to a message publicly, or if the message is a bit more private, one can send a Direct Message (known as a DM) to anyone who has agreed to follow you also. Through the DM system, lovers can share flirts that no one else can see, but the persons intended to receive the message.

If you let your kids use Twitter, it may be best to set up their Twitter Account Settings to "Protect The Tweets". In the description of this feature, Twitter says, "Only let people whom I approve follow my tweets. If this is checked, you WILL NOT be on the public timeline."

The Public Timeline is the messages/tweets that everyone can see. Anything not on the Public Timeline is private, with restricted access.

Business People Are Working To Tap Into Twitter Marketplace

Twitter was born in March of 2006. But most of us never really heard of it or even understood it, until this last year (2008-2009). A few of the Internet gurus started talking about Twitter in 2008, and as 2009 got underway, more online marketers started talking about the Twitter community on a nearly daily basis.

We have accounts in Twitter that are a couple of years old, but we never got involved with Twitter really until about April of 2009. In April of 2009, we had 12 Twitter Followers.

In May 2009, there was not a single online business in the Top 100 of Twitter, but those numbers are starting to change. Through May of 2009, the Top 100 accounts on Twitter were dominated by TV and Movie celebrities, a few media companies such as @cnnbrk, politicians and sports figures.

Most online marketers had never given Twitter much thought until "The Great Ashton Kutcher vs CNN Twitter Race" that ended on April 17, 2009 with Ashton (@aplusk) getting the privilege to declare victory. (http://bit.ly/8Nx55) Even now, three months after the end of the race, Ashton is still the champion - #1 in the Twitter Follower counts with 2,975,032 Followers. Ashton is followed by @TheEllenShow - 2,610,357; @britneyspears - 2,553,668; @cnnbrk - 2,431,783; and @twitter - 1,930,821.

When the Great Twitter Race was concluded, I did a backlink check on Ashton's @aplusk account. Literally, Ashton had bought a ton of advertising on websites, blogs, forums, etc. Ashton was also getting tons of free press in print and online in the Great Twitter Race.

Of course, we marketers should not feel bad if we are getting on this bandwagon a little late in the game, because @google has only had their account since Jan 09. Google is currently the 23rd biggest Twitter account with 1,244,976 Followers.

A surprise for me was seeing @WholeFoods, an Austin Texas based grocery store, sitting at #38 with 1,094,093 Followers. According to TwitterCounter (http://twittercounter.com/WholeFoods/all), Whole Foods had only 322,820 Followers on April 4, 2009. A quick look at the Whole Foods profile (http://twitter.com/WholeFoods) indicates that they are using the account to share with their customers: company news, customer support, and available specials.

An honorable mention goes to @kevinrose, celebrity and founder of http://Digg.com. Kevin Rose is the 40th most popular person on Twitter, with 1,092,920 Followers.

Once you get into the Top 100 List below #40, you finally start to see a few online businesses in the mix. @zappos CEO is #45. @woot is #46. @TechCrunch is a web media site at #55. @dooce is at #60. To see the full Top 100 List, go here: http://twittercounter.com/pages/100

Who Is In Your Target Market and What Do They Want To Know?

As you look around at those people who are successful building their own little communities on Twitter, you will notice that each one gives people what their Followers want.

For example, @cussy is an online marketer, and he has nearly 10,000 Followers. His secret to growth: quotes. He gives his followers some of the best quotes about business and reaching goals of anyone on Twitter. I follow him and Retweet him often.

@dave_carpenter advertises himself as a Success Partner For High Achievers. Dave shares quotes and tips, and he retweets others who give good advice also. More importantly, Dave encourages the people he follows. He has nearly 9,000 Followers at this time.

@MattLevenhagen is a professional marketer. His 13,000 Followers follow because he runs a mix of marketing tips, links to great articles, and retweets for great advice. He even uses his Twitter account to give his customer's support.

@SocialMedia411 is a Social Media expert who offers social media tips, links to social media articles and news. With more than 56,000 Followers, you can bet that the advice given here is worthwhile to its audience.

When you learn to talk to the people most likely to buy from you, you have completed the first and most important step to enable you to develop strong Twitter Marketing habits.

Learn How Others Are Successful With Twitter

As always, when you want to learn to be successful, you should look to those who are already successful and try to reverse-engineer the steps that they used to become successful. Once you have taken the time to study many who have been successful in the way that you want to be successful, you may note that success comes from giving people what they want and doing it in such a way that you offer good value to your customers.

Those who have been successful with Twitter have done so, because they put the needs of their Followers ahead of a personal desire to be boring or silly.

The good news is that other business people have started to find success on Twitter and you can too. When you learn to provide the people in your target market with the information that they need and want, you will have started down the path to building a Twitter Follower list to envy.

Stunning Raku Pottery Will Enhance Any Decor

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Beth Mark

Raku pottery has become a popular interior design accessory that is becoming more popular as a technique with professional potters and hobby pottery enthusiasts and more widely used to enhance any décor because of the mutant color qualities that blend with existing decorating schemes.

Raku pottery takes its origin in Japan, where the family of Japanese potters from the16th Kyoto created the style and distinctive characteristics of low temperature and interrupted firing, because their firing was wood-fueled kilns, since there was no propane at the time.

While some lore believes that "smoking" gave Raku the name and characteristics, that myth comes from the fact that the pottery was allowed to air-cool after the traditional fire started to die down, and the smoke formed the variant color details.

It has become popular again in the last twenty-five years as the Raku pottery techniques involve drawing red hot pots from a kiln and the subsequent "smoking" of the pottery is done in sawdust for the effect. In fact, Hamada, the famous Japanese potter, once said he wanted to wait until the end of his life to learn how to make Raku pottery, because it was the most important and difficult technique to master.

Raku pottery techniques are done in various ways and originally earthenware was used, although any clay body can be used in the process, because it is the glazing and firing technique that makes it distinct. Much of the characteristics of this pottery come from the glaze that is used and it will cool with a "cracking" appearance, also called crazing, that gives the pottery vibrant color contrasts, which are mutable, and may have strong simple shapes and random crazing.

Because of these characteristics, they make a stunning collection of elegant pottery that can fit a wide range of interior decors and have colors that mutate to harmonize with the surroundings of a room. Pleasing to the eye, calming to the spirit and bringing joy and harmony to your heart and life are part of the Raku tradition. Traditionally, Japanese used Raku for their Japanese tea parties for these reasons in ancient centuries.

Today, Raku pottery comes in a variety of finishes and patterns. Bright colors like lapis, aqua, persimmon, red, coffee, amethyst, egg plant gray or gun metal blue are examples. Finishes turn out with different patterns that vary with the color of glaze used. Pottery that is Raku inspired is often inspired by primitive ritual and ceremonial ceramics from around the world. Examples would be a fetish pot, volcano seed pots or volcano bowls.

These unique pottery shapes, colors and finishes can turn a room into an artistically pleasing palette that features the aesthetic and relaxing Zen-like traits that make this type of pottery more than just another vase. If you have never seen Raku pottery, then you will certainly recognize it for the unique glazing patterns, vibrant colors and unusual shapes it can have. It is these characteristics that have made it so popular in decorating today.

The different look you achieve by using Raku pottery, versus normal ceramic pottery with standard glazes is dramatic, as the Raku pottery has an almost ancient pottery look that gives it an old world character, yet has shapes that are unique, edge techniques that are free formed or different patterned and can become the focal point of any room, regardless of other decorating styles in a room. You can enhance any décor when you use this pottery to compliment your interior design.

Useful Tips For The Tuscany Lovers: Holiday Villas And Apartments

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Maurizio Esposito

When you envision Tuscany you see ancient rows of cypress trees pointing skyward, olive groves and vineyards marking hillsides with row after row of abundant and prized fruit. The beauty of the area and its idyllically perfect landscapes have remained unchanged for hundreds of years. What the Renaissance painters so lovingly and accurately captured in their works is still identifiable 500 years later.

So where do you begin when you have an entire region overflowing with beauty to explore? The launching point for many is Florence. And if you view the city from a holiday villa in the Florence hills you can not help but comprehend how the myriad of artists were inspired to create the great works that are housed within the city's museums.

Florence is the political and cultural heart of the region. Beginning here will not only allow you to view a huge number of works of art, but also indulge in some world class restaurants and shopping. Quietly sipping Chianti at the end of a day of sight seeing on the terrazzo of a holiday villa, the Florence hills behind you and a stunning vista in front of you is the perfect end to a perfect day.

When you head to the fabulous wine country that yields the region's most popular wine, Chianti, you will enter a landscape that belongs on a postcard. Ancient vineyards that have been tended by the same families for generations are dispersed throughout the region. Taking a vacation apartment in Chianti allows for a world of wine tasting and agritourism that is unequaled.

Hundreds of years of cultivating the same region and perfecting the techniques yield not only world class wines, but also a hospitality that is second nature. A trip spent in a vacation apartment in Chianti is one that give you memories and photos that will last a lifetime.

Tuscany boasts a host of Medieval towns and rural areas, in addition to Mediterranean beaches that can charm even the most hardened of hearts. From the city of towers, San Gimignano to the nearby Sienna, there is a beauty in both history and architecture that takes hold of the heart and puts a smile on your face.

The vibrance and excitement of the twice annual Palio in the center of Sienna draw crowds of locals rooting for their traditional favorites and tourists from around the world.

Eastern Tuscany lays claim to being the setting for the filming of two of the most popular films set in Italy in the last generation. The Roman established town of Arezzo will look amazingly familiar to fans of Bernini's "A Beautiful Life." Just south of Arezzo lies Cortona, where Diane Lane and "Under the Tuscan Sun" spawned a huge growth in Tuscany luxury villa rentals.

Tuscany's west facing shoreline offers not only unforgettable sunsets and lazy summer days spent bronzing one's self on the beach, but also Napoleon's temporary home of Elba Island. Holiday villas in Tuscany are abundant along the shore. Where Viareggio, "the way of the kings" and other seaside playgrounds call to Italians, Europeans and virtually everyone to come dip their toes into the warm, softly lapping waves of the Mediterranean.

Does Your Company Tag Line Pass These Five Crucial Tests?

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Marcia Yudkin

Judging from the many disastrous slogans that state tourism boards have happily paid tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for, even marketing professionals often use totally subjective criteria to select tag lines. Do we like it? Is it catchy and memorable? Does it make us feel good?

I suggest replacing the "feel-good" test with five much more grounded criteria. When you're trying to decide on the best tag line to accompany your organization's name on the web site, brochures, business cards, stationery, ads, mugs and mouse pads, make sure your winner passes these five tests.

    1. Does it apply to you and not to competitors? Few people would match "Great Potatoes. Tasty Destinations." to any other state than Idaho. But there's nothing in "Worth a Visit, Worth a Lifetime" to indicate Maine any more than Minnesota, Michigan or Montana. If your tag line does not highlight something distinctive about your company, it's not making much of a difference to prospective customers, either.

    2. Does it have nothing but positive connotations? I'm baffled about how "Seize the Day Off" is supposed to reflect well on Maryland. Are all the jobs in that state so horrible that everyone there lives for the weekend? Likewise, "Things Look Different Here" could equally be taken as a bad thing as a good thing about Oregon, which used that slogan for many years.

    3. Does it have emotional oomph? "Greatest Snow on Earth" is certainly an energetic advertisement for Utah. Similarly, Kentucky's "Unbridled Spirit," which refers to its horse-related traditions, has emotional strength. Your tag line should convey energy rather than being flat and factual.

    4. Are the tone and content appropriate for the target market? The District of Columbia has had "Taxation Without Representation" on its license plates, which functions well as an activist slogan for its own residents. But for tourists, that slogan would come across as bombastic and irrelevant. Always keep your target market firmly in mind when generating and screening tag lines. You are not writing it for yourselves but for those you want to attract.

    5. Do you have good reasons for wanting to replace the previous tag line? Don't toss it in the trash just because you are tired of it. Remember that because you undoubtedly hear and see your own tag line much more than your target market does, you may get tired of it years sooner than they will. It's very rare for a state to keep a successful slogan alive for more than a decade because politicians and tourism officials get more and more itchy to put their mark on their entity's branding. That's a very bad reason to change. If the audience has stopped responding to it, or it has begun to be ridiculed - those are good reasons to look for a new tag line.

When you weigh your favorite tag lines with these five tests, you reduce the chances of choosing one that exposes your organization to ridicule. You boost the chances of coming out a winner.

Winning The Bet: I Have Your Name Tattooed On My...

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Cesar Jantz

In college, my roommate Rick used to win bar bets by walking up to strangers at the bar and saying, "Hey, I bet you fifty bucks that I have your name tattooed on my (backside)." The strangers would almost always take the bet, part because it seemed like an easy bet from a drunk and part because they were a bit tipsy themselves. But every taker would always lose after Rick would pull down to expose his left cheek and the words 'your name' burned into his skin.

We paid for plenty of bar tabs thanks to his tattoo, but as he got older, 'your name' warped into a jumbled mess of indecipherable letters; even after years of enjoying his mark, Rick joined so many others in regretting his tattoo.

Tattoos are a powerful form of self expression and one of a young adult's ultimate feats in rebellion. Many people seek out tattoos because they want to feel unique, or wish to revolt from paternal objections, or maybe they want to document an important life experience on their skin. Either way, tattoos are a bold statement on your body that, while maybe a significant symbol for yourself at the time, more often than not, can come back to haunt you.

By now, we are all well acquainted with 18-year old Kimberley Vlaeminck of Belgium and her 56-piece facial art display. Lying to the news and her family just to dodge the anger of a disapproving father is definitely not something she planned on having to do when she walked into that tattoo parlor to get what she told the media was "only three stars". (http://itn.co.uk/8080a47397dab3b36c56ed5dec817f4e.html)

Even though Kimberley secretly liked her face art, many people who get such extravagant works done on their bodies live to regret it. Even celebrities have laments thanks to tattoos.

Heroes star, Hayden Panettiere has the words "Vivere senza rimipianti" down the left side of her body, which is supposed to mean "to live without regrets" in Italian. Ironically, the word "rimipianti" is meant to be spelled "rimpianti" without the extra "i." This is just another good argument for people to not get foreign words imprinted on their bodies without fully knowing what they are putting on there in the first place.

A study done through Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2006 showed that while about twenty percent of people who get tattoos are unhappy with their body art, only six percent ever seek to get them removed. (http://tinyurl.com/6zf6wt)

Several reasons for their tattoo removals ranged from new jobs that conflicted with their appearances, social embarrassment, or lowered body image.

However on the other side, laser tattoo removals can be very costly, which is part why most people do not have it done. Laser tattoo removal treatments usually range from two hundred to nine hundred dollars per visit and it generally takes several visits to a specialist before the ink really begins to fade away.

Even after the tattoo is gone, some people still retain remnants of the shape of the tattoo in a scar.

So before you decide to ink your skin, plan out what you want seared onto your body. Is it something really meaningful? Is it something you won't mind seeing for years to come? And will it help you win bar bets? If you can at least answer the last one with a yes, then maybe it might be worth 56 stars after all...

    The Holy Spirit Guide

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 David Raets

It is hard to argue the fact that no matter what the point of debate, whenever any subject regarding religion is approached there is a real tendency for argument. Bear with me because there is a very real correlation to the subject of this text with the way we raise to the defense of our beliefs. These arguments are not simply against non-believers, or those who do not share our particular faith... these arguments can spring up between the closest of those sharing the same faith. Any point of faith is an extremely personal emotional trigger that has as much of a defense in our core as the need to protect our family and home.

Of all the debates and arguments revolving around belief none is quite as confusing as that surrounding the Holy Spirit. It is easy for people to accept that the Holy Spirit is the word of God handed down to those in ancient times and that the Bible is a resource of those encounters. What is hard for many to truly grasp and accept, even when their minds recite the concept, is that the Holy Spirit is more than just ancient words on a page. The Holy Spirit lives and breathes today as much as centuries ago. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are alive within each of us if we choose to accept this most gracious gift from God.

In fact, the fullness of the Holy Spirit cannot be contained in the written word. Anyone who feels the overwhelming satisfaction of being filled with the Spirit of God knows that. It can hardly be put into words even though we try. We try because we are compelled to share the joy we feel within us and even as we attempt to explain the feeling we have it can be frustrating because we know we fall short. Take heart, however, because you do not have to live up to the feeling through your words. No one can and only those who are touched by the gifts of the Holy Spirit will ever completely understand. You are compelled by the Spirit within you to share the news that God is with us and within us, but you are not expected to change anyone's mind. That is for God himself, and that person to undertake.

One of the reasons so many people have a hard time accepting the presence of the Holy Spirit inside of them is how we live in the hectic world today. Everything is so full of commotion it is hard to "be still". It is hard to listen to that voice that speaks softly to us, guiding our steps and actions. The blessing from God is that if we accept the gift in baptism of the Holy Spirit we can never be separated from it. It can't be taken by any means of man. Nothing can tear it from us - nothing but us ourselves. The only way the Holy Spirit can be taken from us is for us to intentionally deny it, and send it away from us. This is a lot harder too than it sounds, because it takes more than a disgruntled anguished statement of anger towards God made in pain or distress. Some think that because they have cursed God during hard times he is no longer with them but nothing could be further from the truth. God does not leave when things get tough. His Holy Spirit hangs in there even when we are not listening, even when we are angry and in pain, and unless we actually say get out, it will never leave.

Think about that. Even in the deepest despair and pain it is rare for someone to actually say those words. They may ignore the voice inside or be unable to hear it when life is so hectic and crazy that the noise from without drowns out all within, but people who are not completely turned to Satan do not actually say those words.

And the most blessed news of all is that even if someone does say those words God loves them so much that all they have to do is say please forgive me, I believe, and he will rush back in with the strength of a million tides and replenish that broken soul.

The fact that the Holy Spirit is always at work in the world and seeking to reconnect with those who are lost is one of the reasons we are so compelled to share with others how we feel and what we believe. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are always being sown. It is present in the Word of God, it is present in our words, and it is present in our actions. We present a living proof that God exists in the world and is ever caring and loving.

Know that no matter how you present it, whenever you speak of your love and the fulfillment of God's presence in your life, whenever you read from the Holy Bible or others read the Word of God, the Holy Spirit rains down upon them. This Holy Spirit rain will flood their soul and they will hear your words with all of the resonance of God's own voice if they are willing to let it enter.

Keeping that in mind will allow your spirit to flow freely and give you the ability to share the Word of God without argument. Knowing that the greatest Gift from God is that nothing can ever take his Holy Spirit from you and that all you have to do is share what you feel and he will do the rest.

Top Ten Tips For Happy Holiday Car Hire

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Tobias Bowman

When organising a holiday, more often than not what can go wrong will go wrong. There is a wealth of horror stories telling of bankrupt tour operators and roach infested hotels. Car hire is not immune as the subject of these sorts of tales, however with this expert checklist you can make sure you have all the bases covered before you leave your house.

    1. If you are a frequent flier with a specific airline then you may well be eligible for fantastic discounts on car hire from your service provider. Check with your airline to see if you are eligible and find out what car hire companies they affiliate with.

    2. Save extra money and book online. The resources that are used to provide an online booking service are far less than over the phone, hence the savings are passed on to you. A car hire company should have an E-commerce website and if they don't then you might want to rethink your selection. If you are a technophobe then get your 12 year old child to do it for you.

    3. Check the contract carefully. There is a minefield of potential contractual nightmares regarding insurance, liability clauses, excess limits, who can drive and so on. Large car hire companies will have a relatively standard contract and infrastructure to provide support for any questions you might have. Double check and ask questions because it is easier to do it before you travel.

    4. Get a confirmation number. It might seem rather obvious, but your car hire provider should give you a confirmation number to confirm your reservation. This will allow them to access your details instantly and it is also worth providing your car hire company with the details of your flight. This will protect you if your flight runs into delays, as some car hire companies might rehire the car in the event of you not turning up within a certain time.

    5. Is bigger better? Some car hire companies might offer you a free upgrade on the spec of your hire car. This might seem like a blessing however double check that there are no additional contractual obligations with the upgrade. Obviously the fuel bill will be higher and for those of us concerned with the environment, the fuel consumption therefore emissions will be higher.

    6. On the subject of fuel, fill it up yourself. You have to return the hire car with a full tank of gas and it is seriously worth doing that at a gas station before you return the car. The fuel surcharge by companies can severely sting your wallet, so be organised and not in a mad rush. Leave yourself enough time to fill the car up.

    7. Check the vehicle before you accept the hire car. Easier said than done with screaming children but it is seriously worth it. Challenge any marks or inconsistencies with the report because if you miss them, the car hire company will not and you will pay for the pleasure of repairing their car.

    8. Do not drink and drive. There are so many more important reasons why, however in this context you will be void of insurance and liable for everything that happens in an accident. The same is true if you are under the influence of drugs, so just don't do it.

    9. Check the time when the vehicle has to be returned. Another charge, similar to the fuel charge, that is a great source of revenue for car hire companies. There are no excuses for late return and you will be charged through the nose. If you are definitely going to run over then inform them in advance and they might be able to accommodate an extension at a pre-arranged rate.

    10. Be organised. All these pointers will only work if you are organised about your car hire. People end up paying extortionate rates when they incur all these surcharges and they are in abundance; if you plan your car hire properly and use this list and you will not pay over the odds.

    Why People Gamble

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

Gambling is an instinct inherent in all of us. We all gamble. Even if you have never placed a bet in your life, you are still a gambler. Don't believe it? Let's see. Have you ever supported a sports team or a cause? Anything at all? And felt a rush of satisfaction when the people you were backing won. And a sense of sadness when they lost? That means you were betting. Maybe not with money, but with something even more valuable - you were betting with your faith and beliefs.

It's very simple. Human beings need to be involved with things we care about. This applies to everything from choosing the right breakfast cereal to choosing a president for the country. It important because it matters to you and getting the right cereal and the right president can make your life better.

But you don't get so involved when it's about choosing the Prime Minister of Australia. It doesn't matter as much to you. So the outcome of the elections there does not give you as much joy or sorrow.

But why should this matter? It matters because humans are, by nature conditioned to get involved and seek satisfaction in winning or supporting a winner. That is what makes us different from all other creatures. Other animals contest with each other over food, living area and material benefits. Only humans have a psychological make up that includes and Ego and an ID that derives satisfaction from winning that goes beyond the need to survive. The more we win, the happier we are.

That's why so many of us gamble with money. The minute we bet money on an outcome, we are involving ourselves in the contest. In a horse race, there are a limited number of horses and jockeys running, so a limited number of humans have a direct involvement. But watch the people when the race is on - those whose horses are doing well are excited and those whose horses are doing badly are desperate for them to do better. That's because the horses' victory or loss is theirs - because of the money they bet. Of course not everyone bets at the races. Those are the people you see who are quiet and seem to be uninvolved in the proceedings.

There's nothing wrong with gambling. It fulfills our need to be involved in even an indirect form. The bet you place on a roulette wheel makes that little white ball a part of you. When you bet you are stepping outside the safe routine of your life and involving yourself in the adventure of taking a chance.

We all crave excitement of some kind. Very few, if any, of us can live an Indiana Jones lifestyle. But we can pit ourselves safely against others (playing poker) or take part in a big adventure along with others (buying a lottery ticket). Scientific tests have shown that a poker players adrenalin levels go up when he has a good hand or even when he's bluffing with a bad one. The same applies to people who buy lottery tickets and watch the draw on TV. Their adrenalin levels rise as the draw is being conducted.

Adrenalin boosts you metabolism and gives you a safe and natural "high." That's something we all crave. And the one of the most common ways of getting this "high" is the emotion that comes when we are involved in an activity and where the outcome affects us. In most of us, our bodies regulate our desire for this excitement and keep it in reasonable limits. But occasionally the regulation mechanism short circuits. That's when the need for the excitement of gambling gets uncontrolled and passes all safe limits. That's when you become a gambling addict.

Gambling is a way for us to be safe and yet part of an adventure where the outcome is unknown. As long as it is kept under control and within limits and we do not bet - in money terms - more than we can afford, it is a safe outlet for all the tension that builds up in us. Even losing is not bad. At least you took part in the adventure.

So you say you have never placed a bet in your life? I bet you are wrong!

    My Night on the Town

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Ryan Hogan

It's just after 3 a.m. when you sidle up to the counter at Geno's Streaks, located at the intersection of 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia.

    "One wiz with," you order.

That means one cheesesteak with cheese wiz and fried onions. You have to order quickly because there's always a line at Geno's. There's always a line at Pat's King of Steaks too. That famous cheesesteak eatery is located on the south corner of this intersection.

That's right, the two best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia (as well as the world) are located at the same intersection. Tonight you picked Geno's because the coin came up heads. Next time you'll try Pat's or maybe both.

Even though it's early in the morning you were in desperate need of a late night snack. After all, you just spent the entire evening (and some of the morning) exploring everything there is to do at night in Philadelphia.

Well, not everything. The City Of Brotherly Love offers so many options for night time fun - from cocktails to live music, from neighborhood bars to bowling alleys - that's there's no way you could see and do everything in just one evening (and some of the morning).

Besides its vast selection, Philadelphia also offers convenient. Depending on the area you choose, you can spend the entire evening in one neighborhood walking (hopefully not stumbling) from one hot spot to the next.

For you, this particular night started with dinner at a daring and dashing restaurant called 10 Arts. Located inside the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia Hotel, at the corner of Broad and Chestnut Streets, the elegant 10 Arts is the product of world-renowned Chef Eric Riper.

The cuisine is American and the atmosphere is urbane, especially with its beautifully white-marble architecture. While it's an expensive restaurant they are sensitive to their patrons' pocketbooks and this down economy. Monday through Wednesday if the stock market is up, 10 Arts will help you celebrate with 25 percent off their appetizers. If the market is down, they will help you drown your sorrows with 25 percent off their drinks.

After dining at 10 Arts, you and your party shuffled over to the World Café Live on 3025 Walnut Street. There you listened to great live music in their 300-seat bistro-style music hall.

The atmosphere was bright, cheerful and the café's metropolitan flair was conducive for both appetizers and drinks. Of course you were still full from your 10 Arts experience so you just had a cocktail or three.

After the World Café Live it was off to Johnny Brenda's. This famous Philly night spot is positioned at 1201 Frankford Avenue. While large, it's not quite as big as the World Café, Johnny Brenda's seats only 250 music lovers. Live bands, mostly from the indie scene, rock this joint five nights a week.

The menu at Johnny Brenda's is written on a chalkboard because it changes several times throughout the course of the day. You were in luck during your visit and were able to order their grilled octopus. It's definitely a must try dish.

Listening to all that music made your and friends quite thirsty, so you all decided to do a little bar hopping. Your first destination was Bob and Barbara's. Located on 1509 South Street, B&B is the perfect dive bar.

You can enjoy beer or a cocktail at Bob and Barbara's while listening to live music. Everything is played on their stage, from funk to jazz, from rock to pop. Tonight you were in luck as Nate Wiley and the Crowd Pleasers were on hand playing their self-described "liquor-drinking music."

The best part of Bob and Barbara's is their racially diverse, gay and straight crowds. Everyone is welcome at this colorful venue.

After tossing back a few, it was off to Grace Tavern. Located at 2229 Grays Ferry Avenue, this drinking establishment is one of the best bars in Philadelphia.

This bar's ceiling and walls are decorated in sublime tin tile giving the space a cozy and welcoming feel. Their kitchen is opened until 2 a.m. but you're just here for one final drink, that perfect pint of Guinness. After savoring every last drop, and closing down the bar, you and your brood decide it's time for a cheesesteak run.

As you're consuming your Geno's cheesesteak you realize that you have yet to touch the surface of all the night time fun Philadelphia has to offer. You plan right then and there that the next time you go out you won't gallivant all over town (with the services of a designated driver of course) but you'll stay in one neighborhood.

For instance the Northern Liberties neighborhood, situated north of Spring Garden Street to the south of Girard Avenue, is full of restaurants, bars and taverns that attract active and artsy crowds.

On North 3rd Street you'll find the popular bar and restaurant called North Third. Their burgers are terrific and they have a great fried calamari.

Bar Ferdinand is a hip tapas bar serving over 50 authentic Spanish wines. Located on 1030 North Second Street, the always enjoyable Ferdinand is both versatile and reasonably price.

It's 21,000 square feet of pure fun. North Bowl and its 17 lanes are located at 909 North 2nd Street. Also in residence are two full bars, an upstairs lounge with Italian sofas, pool tables and an arcade. You might have to wait for a lane but it's worth it.

The Northern Liberties neighborhood also has dancing. Silk City, 5th and Arch Street, has been called "the hottest party in town" by the New York Times. Often categorized as a diner/restaurant/bar/nightclub hybrid, Silk City is a fun, cool and safe place to go and boogie.

If you're seeking more sophistication, Ortlieb's Jazzhaus can be found at 847 North 3rd Street. You'll find the city's best jazz playing there nightly in this welcoming and accessible club.

Finally, there's the Good Dog Bar (224 South 15th Street). Since its kitchen is open until 1am, this cozy bar is a great place to end the evening. They're known far and wide for their Roquefort-stuffed Good Dog burger.

Old City is another neighborhood destination for those looking for some fun Philadelphia nightlife. This is the original Philadelphia neighborhood and it lies south of Vine Street, north of Pine Street, and east of 7th Street. For our purposes, we care about 2nd and 3rd streets, as well as Chestnut, that's where we'll find the bars, restaurants and all the happening night spots.

One of Old City's most unique establishments is the Natural Mechanics Bar and Restaurant located at 22 South 3rd Street. They have more than 15 beers on draught and you can make-your-own bloody Mary's.

Check out Natural Mechanics' "exotic" menu: corn dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches and Campbell's tomato soup, and the "Frito Taco Extravaganza." The "Extravaganza" is a split-open bag of Frito's covered with chili and cheddar cheese.

If you're looking for live music visit 56 South 2nd Street. That's where you'll find The Khyber, the destination for those wishing to hear great live music from local and national artists. This hip establishment dates all the way back to the 19th century. If you don't see the bar when you first walk in don't panic, it's upstairs.

If you need to sit down, have a beer, and maybe catch your breath, visit Sugar Mom's at 225 Church Street. You can not only smoke inside but they have tons of seating options.

West of Broad Street, between Girard Avenue and Spring Garden Streets is the Fairmont area of Philadelphia. The Fairmont area is home to several bars and restaurants, including the London Grill, The Bishop's Collar and the Urban Saloon.

Located at 2301 Fairmount Avenue, the London Grill is a great place to get a burger or an order of fish and chips. Their beer selection is second to none featuring Flying Fish "Hopfish" India Pale Ale, Stoudt's Willie Sutton Lager, and Victory Prima Pilsner, just to name a few.

Finally, there are a few other places, outside of the aforementioned neighborhoods, that you'll want to visit. The Royal Tavern, on 937 East Passyunk Avenue, has great burgers, buffalo chicken wings and a famous vegan sloppy Joe. A real home town bar, the Royal also specializes in local brews like Victory, Yards and Dogfish Head.

Tria, 1137 Spruce Street, is the place to go to for hard-to-find cheeses and succulent wines (they also have craft beer). This sophisticated bar doesn't serve mixed drinks and they don't take reservation.

As you can see the city of Philadelphia is teeming with things to do at night. Depending on your mood, you can spend the entire evening (and some of the morning) exploring one neighborhood or you can spend the entire night (and some of the morning) visiting establishments spread throughout the city.

Regardless of whether you stick to just one neighborhood or you traverse the city, you have at your disposal a wealth of night time options: sophisticated pubs, groovy dance clubs, great beer halls and neighborhood watering holes.

However, the absolute best part about going out at night in Philadelphia is finishing your evening with a cheesesteak. After all, Geno's and Pat's are always open.

Lady Gaga and Kanye West To Tour

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Lynda Belcher

There are two things wrong with a tour featuring Lady Gaga and Kanye West. To start, let me just say that I think both people are two of the most talented voices in music today. They are both innovative and daring with their music. They are both trendsetting fashion gurus that are always wearing something no one else has even though to put together. They are both pretty easy on the eyes, in their own funky way.

And they both have egos the size of the Pacific Ocean.

So, how do their handlers propose to make these two titans tour together without the ensuing drama that goes along with tours --- and stars --- of this nature?!

Anyone who has been paying attention to entertainment news in the last three or four years has heard (at least once) one of Kanye's rants about his genius and how the rest of us don't quite recognize it. He has lamented (quite loudly) the loss of various awards and has essentially said that anyone that isn't on board the Kanye Express doesn't know a thing about anything.

Gaga isn't much better. She is as self-involved as Kanye is and once said that songstress Christina Aguilera was actually trying to steal her style, which is crazy considering Gaga has been around for like five minutes....and Aguilera for more than 12 years.

I think the most interesting aspect of this tour is the fact that Kanye has already come out to clarify that Lady Gaga is not an opening act, but rather a co-headliner. Way to play that one, 'Ye because you already know that Gaga isn't playing second fiddle to any other artist on tour, not since the success of her solo tour effort.

Now, these two artists are always interesting to look at, visually speaking, and both put on shows with lots of creative flair. So, I am interested to see what a Kanye/Gaga collabo will look like on a huge stage. No doubt there will be a Mack truck full of bells and whistles and funky extras that no one has ever thought to throw together before.

But when it comes to the play to the fans, which after all are the point of any concert, will Gaga and Kanye have the ability to look away from their respective images in the magic mirror to put on a great show? Or will they drown the pool of their own images, putting on a show that appeals to nothing but their huge, hulking egos? I suspect the latter, hope for the former and say it remains to be seen.

Signal Mountain Serves As A Doorway To Civil War History and Chattanooga, Tennessee

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Alesha Corwin

Located in the historic district of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, owners and innkeepers Earl and Susan Rothberger have renovated their hundred-year-old home and turned it into a wonderful bed and breakfast. The Rothberger's B&B home is called the Old Towne Bed and Breakfast, and it welcomes guests from all over the country.

The Old Towne Bed and Breakfast has four unique bedrooms (designed and decorated by Susan) with 3 private bathrooms. The owners of the Old Towne B&B can accommodate individuals on vacations or honeymoons, and if needed, they can accommodate large groups for reunions or weddings, in the event you would want to rent the whole house for your event.

    Excellent Food

Each room provides a stocked fridge, and guests are offered wine and cheese provided every afternoon.

The food is good. In fact, proprietor Earl Rothberger enjoys getting into the kitchen and providing anything his guests might ask to eat. Earl has a gift for food preparation that enables him to brilliantly answer to the food needs of his guests, from eggs benedict, to delicious homemade bread, homemade rosemary bread, or vegetarian dishes.

    Pefect For The Business Traveler

The Old Towne B&B has made its accommodations suitable for business travelers. They provide free computer access, copying machines, fax machines, and Internet access - everything that the business traveler needs on those business trips or working vacations.

I know how hard it is to leave the office at the office when you are on vacation, but the Old Towne has shown itself to be aware of our need for connectivity, while at the same time creating an environment that will allow us to relax and enjoy ourselves.

    Central Location

Old Towne Bed and Breakfast is a quaint house nestled on Signal Mountain, Tennessee. It is perfect place to stay of you have a relative at Alexian Nursing Home - just seconds down the street.

Located just 12 miles from downtown Chattanooga, it's location makes it convenient to the business traveler or the couple on vacation.

In Signal Mountain and nearby Chattanooga, one has quick and easy access to boutiques, restaurants, and antiques shopping. In Signal Mountain, the downtown area offers many attractions including: a beautiful aquarium, Ruby Falls, Rock City, The Chattanooga Choo-Choo, and several Civil War battlefields.

If you plan to visit the Old Towne with your children, you will find a wealth of playgrounds to choose from, and if you are a bit more adventurous, your kids will have a thrill at the Pumpkin Patch or the downtown Creative Discovery Museum.

Some wonderful attractions within driving distance, include: Monteagle, Lookout Mountain, historic Chickamauga battlefield, and the Applachian mountains.

Signal Mountain, TN played a pivotal role for the Union army during the Civil War, starting in 1863. You can read more about the historical significance of this area at the Signal Mountain community website (http://www.sigmtn.com/community/history.php).

    Activities

If you are visiting the area during the summer months, one of the highpoints of the local culture includes a trip to watch the Lookouts Baseball games. The team's stadium overlooks the beautiful Tennessee River.

For the more civilized among us, the local area boasts of several local golf and country clubs, and tennis courts for your enjoyment.

But for those of us who like to dive into our natural surroundings, mountain treks are not out of the norm. In fact, if you are an extreme outdoors adventurer, there are great rock climbing sites, mountain biking trails, and several white water rivers around the area to explore.

While the extreme outdoors is not for everyone, the beginner hiking trails invite anyone and everyone to visit, and along the way, you might even take up bird watching, as the local natural habitat appeals to a great diversity of animals and birds.

    The Old Towne Experience

Innkeepers, Earl and Susan Rothberger welcome anyone from anywhere in the world to come visit their quaint and beautiful Bed And Breakfast.

There is no minimum stay, so if you stay for one night or two weeks you will be very welcome, and the rates are very reasonable - at a little over one hundred dollars per night.

With a recent addition to the home, the Rothberger's have added a lovely deck overlooking a garden. Also, you can enjoy a nice soak in the hot tub with a nice glass of wine, if you feel so inclined. The owners have also acquired a wide selection of dvds and board games if you happen to be staying with them on a rainy or snowy day.

Having made the journey to Tennessee, I can't help but recommend it to anyone who loves the great outdoors and the cozy environment brought forth by the Old Towne B&B, just a few miles to the northwest of Chattanooga, TN.

The Signal Mountain, Tenn area offers activities for all ages. And for my taste, the Old Towne Bed and Breakfast is the choice for my weekend getaways and sleeping accommodations in the Tennessee valley area.

Why So Many People Have Tried Dating And Are Still Alone

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2008-2009 Lance Metzger

Let's face it; we all want to find our special someone. Even on a "No Strings Attached" dating site, I am looking for a regular girlfriend.

Unfortunately, too many people involved in the Dating Game are hurting their chances of success, before they even go on that first date.

I will give you an example or two.

One lady I knew a few years back had been single for years. Her older sister thought she and I would be a good match, so the older sister played matchmaker. I agreed to at least give the younger sister a chance, so I tried to set up our first date. But, I never actually got the chance to go out with my friend's little sister.

    Why? You might be surprised.

The younger sister would only agree to go out on a first date with me, IF I promised to marry her!!!

I would not make that kind of promise. Sure, I was looking for a wife, but I was not going to commit to marriage with a woman with whom I had never been on a date!

I still see the younger sister's profile in Yahoo Personals every time I look in her hometown to see who is available. We are actually 15 years down the road. I have been in a few relationships, including one marriage, and yet she is still looking for her next husband.

There was another lady for whom I was very fond, and I really wanted to date. But her deal was that she would not agree to a date, unless I would agree to date her for several months.

I did not even know whether I would like her after our first date, let alone like her enough to date her for several months based on a commitment made before I got to know her. (She is also still looking for a boyfriend on Yahoo Personals, as well.)

Put yourself in my shoes. If you were to go out with me, you may decide after the first date that we are not compatible. So why would you want to commit to several months worth of dates or even marriage prior to your first date with me? You wouldn't, would you?

"No Strings Attached" is the only way to date, if you ask me. We should have the freedom to go on a date, without having to commit ourselves to anything beyond that first date. We should feel that we have the freedom to say no. If we don't work together as a couple, there should be no expectation to drag it out for months with no positive end in sight.

We should all have the freedom to choose if we want to go on a second date, a third date, or even a twentieth date.

We should only seek marriage because we both want to be married to each other. We should not ever feel obligated to marriage on a first date or third.

So here I am. I don't want to lie to you. My personal integrity will not allow me to lie to you.

But, if you want me to agree to multiple dates or marriage before we go on our first date, then the only way that you and I will ever go out is if I let my integrity fall by the wayside.

The only commitment I can make to you is that if I like you, we can go out twice. If we continue to mutually like one another, then maybe we can go out on a third date. And maybe some day, we will decide that we would be a good pair in marriage.

And if this is not acceptable to you, then I might have to throw my personal integrity out the window, and lie to you, just so I can go on that first date with you to see if we could be a good match.

If you don't want guys to lie to you about the future, then don't ask them to commit to something that no person in their right mind will commit to before the first date!

12 Nifty Ways To Stream Internet Movies At Home

    Copyright © 2009 Titus Hoskins

What if you could watch all your favorite movies and TV shows from the comfort of your home - whenever you wanted to watch them. Wouldn't that get your pixels firing on all cylinders?

    Well, now you can!

Of course, this is nothing new, since one obvious way to do this is through your cable company which more than likely already offers On Demand movies and programs. However, there are many drawbacks to these cable services, with cost being the major concern.

But forget cable services, that's strictly old school. Right now we are entering the dawn of a new age in home entertainment -- heralding the arrival of Multiplex TV.

Mainly because we are seeing the fusion of your TV and computer screen. The marriage of your TV screen with your computer screen is fast approaching, if it hasn't already arrived. Probably eloped while you weren't watching; but many smart consumers have already taken note and taken advantage of these two merging entertainment forces.

Although using the Internet as a vehicle to deliver high-quality entertainment to your TV screen is still in its infancy, there are quite a number of services and products out there which will allow viewers to gain access to streaming on-demand TV programs, movies and original online content via the web. These services will greatly expand the level of your home entertainment experience and enjoyment.

So the real question is where and how do I gain access to this vast and powerful online database of streaming media?

There are numerous services you can choose from and some of them are even free, while most are subscription based. Regardless, all will provide you with more than enough content for totally enjoying online streaming media from the comfort of your home.

Here, in my opinion, are the best options available right now and a few upcoming ones you should know about.

    1. TVersity

TVersity is a free program you can download for free from tversity.com. TVersity works by installing a media server on your PC that will transmit your media to anywhere you like. In conjunction with a gaming console such as Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, TVersity will open up to you a wide variety of media from the internet. One of the main features that make TVersity so great is that it can convert your files into the correct format for easy streaming. This is very important because certain gaming consoles can only play certain file formats. TVersity eliminates any playback problems, no matter what type of media hub you're using such as Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, iPhone, PSP, or others.

    2. Vizio's Connected HDTVs (Coming in Fall 2009)

Vizio is planning to have their own Internet-enabled high-definition TV set which is coming out in the Fall of 2009. The details are still in the works, but these Television sets should have the capability to connect to your home internet feed, through an Ethernet connection or a wireless signal, allowing you to access all the online content providers, such as Netflix, Amazon and Blockbuster. If these TV sets actually produce even half of what they are promising, it may be a worthwhile investment and you should hold out until they are released if buying a TV is high on your list of things to do.

    3. LG's NetCast Entertainment Access HDTV (Coming in May and June 2009)

This spring LG is introducing a Television set that has their NetCast Entertainment Access function built in. Perhaps, seeing the potential Blu-ray players have with streaming capability, LG has opted to do away with the box altogether. There will be four internet-enabled TV sets: the 42LH50 and 47LH50 LCD TVs and the 50PS80 and 60PS80 plasmas. All the television sets will allow access to Netflix, CinemaNow and YouTube; eliminating the need for alternative devices by gaining access through an Ethernet connection.

    4. Media Mall's PlayOn Digital Media Server (Price: $40)

Media Mall is a third-party software that lets you watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, CBS, CNN, ESPN and more on your TV. Basically, it enhances the streaming functions of your video game console. You can run the program on your Windows PC and this allows your gaming console to access streaming data via your computer, to be displayed on your TV set. Isn't technology wonderful?

    5. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (Price: $199 - $299; $399 - $499)

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are not just gaming consoles, they also have the ability to be full featured media centers. For example, Xbox 360 is capable of supporting Netflix streaming and Xbox Live MarketPlace allows for the purchasing of movies or TV shows. Playstation 3 has a similar feature, the Playstation Network Store, which you can download video content to the internal hard drive for viewing. Plus, by adding third-party software, your Xbox and Playstation 3 can be made to support internet streaming from Hulu.com, Amazon On Demand and other such movie providers.

    6. LG BD 370 Blu-ray Player (Price: $330)

This LG Blu-ray player comes equipped with NetCast Entertainment Access. You can stream video from Netflix, YouTube and CinemaNow. (CinemaNow is similar to Amazon Video On Demand) The LG BD 370 will quickly become a main asset to anyone's Home Entertainment Network.

    7. Samsung BD-P1600/BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player ($229 - $499)

The Samsung BD-P1600 and BD-P4600 allows for Netflix and Pandora instant streaming, you can also listen to great tunes or watch your favorite movies. They are both Profile 2.0 Blu-ray players, bringing you great high-definition quality from using Blu-ray Discs. Connection to the internet is by an Ethernet port.

    8. Roku Digital Video Player ($99)

The Roku Digital Video Player is a very cheap way to bring streaming internet media to your Television set. It was released when Netflix launched its "Watch Instantly" program. You connect the player to your home network via an Ethernet cable and you can then select from a wide range of standard to high-definition connections to your television set. The Roku player supports Amazon On Demand as well, giving you another great choice on how to watch your movies. You will get more than 50,000 titles from Amazon Video On Demand and Netflix, with many available in HD.

    9. Vudu ($149)

Like Roku Digital Video Player, Vudu is a box you connect to your Television set giving you access to over 13,000 movies. Vudu can be a perfect addition to your home entertainment network. You can also listen to music from Pandora via Vudu Labs on your television set.

    10. Netflix 'Watch Instantly'

Netflix subscribers who have plans of $8.99 or more can take advantage of Netflix's "Watch Instantly" program, giving them access to over 12,000 movies. You can access this program through your Windows PC, Intel-based Macs, or a number of other devices such as Roku Digital Video Player, LG BD 370 Blu-ray Player, Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Player, and Samsung BD-p4600 Blu-ray play.

    11. Amazon Video On Demand

Amazon's Video On Demand has a current catalog of more than 40,000 titles to choose from, including HD movies and TV shows which are available for watching in the comfort of your living room. You can either purchase or rent these movies/TV shows and prices range from around $14.99 to $2.99. It provides a convenient way for you to watch High-definition quality movies and TV shows on your TV, all without ever having to leave the house. Amazon Video On Demand in HD is currently available on the following compatible devices, the Roku Digital Video Player, TiVo S3, the Sony DMXNV1 Bravia Internet Video Link, and Panasonic VIERA Cast enabled HDTVs.

    12. Hulu.com

Together, NBC Universal and News Corp have produced Hulu.com which provides full-length, DVD quality internet streams of movies and TV shows for FREE. Of course you do have to deal with a few 15 to 30 seconds commercials every now and then, but the benefits will outweigh this inconvenience for many viewers.

As you can plainly see by the variety and number of different ways you can access streaming movies and TV shows via the Internet; home entertainment is definitely going through a major transition and everyone wants in on the action and potential profits. The ordinary viewer has a whole array of options and choices when it comes to choosing the system that will deliver their streaming videos, movies and TV programs. It makes for a perfect marriage, now lets bring on the honeymoon.

Finding Flags Made In The USA

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Beth Mark

Finding Flags made in the USA is not easy. Civil War flags, Military Flags and Colonial Flags hold special meaning to many Americans, especially those that have served in the Armed Forces. However, it is very discouraging to purchase a flag only to find a label Made In WhereEver!! And there are so many different ones, that mean a lot to particular groups, like the Military or Historical Buffs.

    History Of Flags:

The original 13 star version of the United States flag originated on June 14, 1777 and the current 50 star version originated on July 4, 1960. The flag is the most recognized symbol in the nation, and this country has had many different versions throughout its changing growth and history.

While the flag represents the government established under the U.S. Constitution, it has always represented our freedom and liberty. It has been said that the stripes represent rays of sunlight and the stars refer to the heavens, or the highest place a person can aim to reach.

This symbolism is true of the United States flags, however, other flags, such as Military and Civil War flags have a different symbolism represented in the emblems and layouts chosen. The majority of Colonial flags are based on the original versions, including the famous Betsy Ross flag, which is the most symbolic flag story, other than the story of the Star Spangled Banner version, which our national anthem is based on.

    Civil Wars Flags:

For Civil War history buffs, these flags made in the USA symbolize different periods in the Civil War era, and the flags were flown at different times in the history of the Confederate Union. While it was an American War, there are many people, especially in the South that still pay honor to the Confederate soldiers that fought for their rights of different opinion, right or wrong.

Many of the Southern States still fly what they call the "Rebel Flag". In fact, these flags have actual names, and they are made in the USA. Flags that are similar in appearance are the C.S.A. Naval Jack Battle Flag, C.S.A. Cavalry Battle Flag, C.S.A. Artillery Battle Flag, C.S.A. Infantry Battle and General Nathan Bedford Forrest Battle Flag. These flags are symbolized with a Red background and the Blue "X" of White Stars.

Other Civil War Flags available are: General Robert E. Lee Headquarters, C.S.A. Eleven Stars and Bars, Union Thirty Four Star, Union Cavalry Guidon, Custer 7th Cavalry Guidon, Terry's Texas Rangers, Confederate 1st, 2nd, and 3rd National flags, and the C.S.A. Bonnie Blue Flags. For the Civil War enthusiast, this is a comprehensive of historical flags, at affordable prices, most under $50.

    Military Flags:

These flags made in the USA primarily honor the different branches of the military, although they include the POW/MIA flag and the Jolly Roger Pirate Flag. You can get the flag that represents United States Army, United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, United States Air Force and the United States Coast Guard. Many military veterans are delighted to get these as gifts and they fly them proudly throughout the United States.

    Colonial Flags:

There are a wide variety of Colonial Flags made in the USA. These include flags that were flown at different times throughout the Colonial period of the United States. They include the Betsy Ross flag, Grand Union flag, Star Spangled Banner flag, Washington's Headquarters flag and the Bunker Hill flag, for example.

There are a variety of other Colonial flags that may be familiar to some people and not others, such as Commodore Perry, Taunton, Cowpens, Bedford, Continental, Bennington, Gadsden, Culpepper, Fort Moultrie and Guilford Courthouse flags. Some of these flags have significance to people in certain areas or through historical family references, but for flag collectors they can be difficult to find in many places.

    Choice of Materials:

Most of the flags made in the USA are 3 foot by 5 foot flags, and they are available in Sewn Cotton, Sewn Nylon or Sewn 2 ply. With reinforced edges and brass grommet flags, they are constructed for the wind and weather elements of the United States and not cheaply constructed like overseas flags. So be sure to check the labels before you purchase!

A Brief History of Online Gambling

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

Gambling is said to be as old as organized society itself. There is evidence that the ancient societies of India, China, Greece and Rome all had some form of gambling culture. Some articles thought to be gambling implements dating back to about 2300 BCE have been found in China. A pair of dice dating from 1500 BCE has been found in Egypt.

So, the gambling we do today has a long history behind it. But one thing is for sure - those people who rolled the dice 3500 years ago would never, in their wildest imagination, conceived of anything like the internet gambling we know today. This has added a whole new dimension to gambling, making it possible for a person to sit in the comfort of his home and gamble at any time of the day or night, any day of the week. No more getting dressed and going to a casino. Gambling is on tap 24/7.

Online gambling has its root in the development of random number generator algorithms that enables software for games of chance to be developed. Online gambling became popular in the early 1990s; but was kept at a low level and was not given much publicity because of the uncertain legal status. In the mid 1990s the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda saw the future and legalized online gambling. While other countries soon followed suit, these two economies had the advantage of being first off the starting blocks and even today, the majority of online casinos are registered on these islands.

The first legal internet casino opened in 1996 and the rest, as the saying goes, is history! No one expected the industry to explode the way it did. It has become a way of life for people all over the world and according to a study done by Merrill Lynch; the online gaming industry is expected to reach a turnover of $48 billion by 2010. The industry has been growing exponentially over the years and seems to be immune from the effects of the current recession. While just about every other industry has suffered because of a fall in demand caused by tight money supply, online gaming has continued to grow. It is apparent that the charm of trying ones luck in the hope of winning some money only grows when other sources of income begin to shrink.

The resulting growth of the online gaming software industry saw spin off benefits, in all areas of software development; including those of online security systems. Online gaming software brought in various features and facilities that are now part of all forms of ecommerce. While security and encryption software was already in existence, the needs of the online gambling industry took the sophistication of programming to a whole new level to where today, online payments are as secure as any other form.

Today, online gambling seems to be seeing a repeat of the famous Las Vegas infighting, among the casinos that nearly brought the city to its financial knees in the late 1990s. Online casinos are today fighting each other for a larger share of the online gambling community by offering the same kind of extras the Vegas casinos did. You can find music, virtual strippers and everything you could expect in a real casino to keep you entertained while you chase the lucky win. The end result of the jostling for online wallets, will mean that a lot of the current players will fall by the wayside. Perhaps that will be a good thing with those who remain being the most highly professional and who can offer the best online gambling experience.

There are many theories as to why online gambling is so popular. Among the many reasons given are:

  • All the games available online are played in the same way as in traditional casinos, so there is no learning curve for the player.

  • The player can play whenever the mood takes him from the comfort of his home. This means that those who wish to can remain anonymous.

  • Because of their lower overheads, online casinos can afford to be more generous in their payouts.

  • Online casinos in their effort to attract members, offer a range of special features to tempt the online players.

    Weezy is America's Most Wanted

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Lynda Belcher

I can remember when I first heard Lil Wayne spit. He was still with Cash Money then and he was rapping on a song with Juvenile and B.G.

I remember thinking at the time that his voice was so unique and his flow so different that he was probably going to be the only one out of all three of the rappers on that track to last, yet he was the most low-profile and only had like four or five lines in the song.

Now, almost ten years later, I have sooooo been proven right. Juvenile? Nowhere to be found (though he did attempt somewhat of a comeback). B.G.? Nowhere to be found. Lil Wayne? On top of the freakin' world. Everybody either has worked with him or wants to work him. Not only is his semi-whiny voice different from anyone else's, but his rhymes are amazing.

Wayne is a prolific rapper, at once witty, yet kind of gutter when he needs to be. He has officially crossed over into the rock and pop spectrum, yet still maintains his high level of street cred with the hip-hop crowd.

How many artists can claim that?

He is the top selling rapper on the market today, even bigger than the likes of Kanye West or Jay-Z, both of who had greater commercial success earlier than Lil Wayne, aka Dwayne Carter, aka Weezy (as he refers to himself).

He has garnered critical acclaim as a four-time Grammy award winning artist and became the first artist in almost five years to sell a million albums during the first week that Tha Carter III was on store shelves. In fact, Tha Carter III was the best-selling album of 2008, going on to sell three million copies in the U.S. after its June 2008 release.

This rollercoaster ride of success hasn't been all fun and games for Lil Wayne. He has had his bumps with the law (what rapper hasn't?) and he enjoys regular inbibing of syrup (some funky concoction of juice and promethazine or codeine). I think these kinds of lumps in life only prove to make him better. After all, who wants to hear anyone spout off about hard times when you don't know they've been through any....particularly if they have millions of dollars.

Now, Weezy heads out on the road this summer for the America's Most Wanted music fest. Lil Wayne is the headliner, and will be joined by Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Canadian emcee Drake. This current tour is the follow-up to the uber successful "I Am Music Tour," which hit 47 venues around the United States.

America's Most Wanted is traveling throughout 21 cities in the U.S. and Canada (Lil Wayne Toronto concert fans get ready), kicking off on July 27 in Scranton, PA. Atlanta Lil Wayne fans can expect a tour stop and there will be a Dallas America's Most Wanted concert tour stop as well. Even smaller venues will get a piece of the action as Weezy rolls through North Carolina with a Raleigh Lil Wayne concert scheduled in early August.

This will prove to be a great show, since all of the artists involved are amazing. Jeezy and Soulja Boy have their own faithful following, and are both Atlanta rappers with a huge existing fan base.

Drake is the opening act and is perhaps best known for acting on the hit teen show Degrassi and has apparently been being groomed for his musical debut by Weezy himself. Drake is also rather well-known for his alleged hook-up with Rhianna, though the two claim they are just friends.

Write a Book and Catapult Your Company to New Heights by Branding Yourself As an Expert

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Charles Jacobs

Taming the recessionary tiger is not as difficult as you think. Forget the old patterns of spending big bucks to buy advertising or blast postal mailings to thousands of possible buyers. The dollars aren't there to spend in a broken economy. Today every penny has to count, and that happens only when you define your market exactingly and tailor a message that is meaningful to it.

We are in a world of specialization. People in every niche seek information both on and off line. You can be the person to whom they turn to find that information. There is a way to brand yourself as an expert and to make your business or professional office the place customers or clients think of first. When reporters need a quote or perhaps some background material for a story they're working on, make sure they turn to you, not to one of your competitors.

    Raising Your Reputation

It is almost axiomatic that your reputation rises to new heights when you write and publish a book. And in today's world, for the first time it is easy, fast and inexpensive to turn your words into print.

New printing technology has give birth to a new generation of publishers. Publishing on Demand (POD) has swept through the industry, churning out thousands of books and boosting the reputations of their authors. With this process, books can be printed in any quantity you need to use as promotional tools. They can be rapid-reading booklets of 30 or 40 pages or they can be full blown books of anywhere from 75 to 200 or more pages.

Journalism today has moved strongly into specialization. You can send the book to members of the press and to broadcast journalists who write about topics related to your product. They may review your book or simply write a blurb about it, sending hundreds of readers to your web site, office or store.

Once recognized as a leader in your field, you may well be asked to speak at various functions, adding further to your reputation. All of these possibilities are part of the program of branding yourself...identifying yourself as an expert.

    Getting Assistance

Perhaps you have a talented staff member who can write the book with you. Or even for you. You certainly have the option of turning to a professional writer to ghost write the book. It is done frequently. If you don't require that degree of assistance, contact a Book Coach to help you over the occasional bumps.

It is highly likely that your business is already represented by a web site on the Internet. Add a page to the site about yourself and about your book. What a wonderful opportunity to sell your book from the site and not have to pay commissions.

You may want to piggy back on the book and write articles for distribution throughout the Web. Hundreds of thousands of people will see your piece and hopefully a percentage will respond. You can distribute these articles at no cost by using online article distributors.

Once your book has been written, you can take portions of it and either rewrite them or run them as excerpts. In either case, your workload is minimal because you are drawing on something you have already written.

    Writing for Trade Journals

You undoubtedly read some of the trade journals published in your field. Editors of these publications are hungry for informative, meaningful articles. They care far less about your writing style or ability than they do about the content you can provide. Their staffs can polish what you write and turn it into quality pieces, but they must first rely on you to supply the content.

Every article you write offers a perfect opportunity to attract business. The article itself must be informative. It can't be a press release or a selling tool for you or your product. But at the end, as you have seen so many times when you read, the bio box about the author becomes a free advertisement for you.

Fill the box with information that invites your reader to visit your web site or buy your product. Provide enough information to allow the reader to trust you because of your credentials. Never forget that trust is a major factor in attracting a potential and closing a sale.

By following this approach you quickly build confidence in your expertise and as a result in your product. Print and broadcast journalists today search the Web for likely stories and for experts who can be used in those stories. A few references to you or your business in print or on the air will raise your rate of sale to unexpected heights.

If you are running a practice or a business, you are a knowledgeable professional or an informed businessperson. Harness that unique background and turn it into one of the most inexpensive, but most effective methods of branding yourself as an expert and promoting your company as one of the leaders in its field. It is an ideal way to offset the depression blues.

Try This Cost-Free Way To Roam The Globe And Write About It

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Charles Jacobs

Ah, joy. The cushy life of a travel writer.

Off to glamorous places. Air fare paid. No cost for accommodations. Treated royally. Paid handsomely for all this "suffering."

That's the dream, but unfortunately, it's a bit of a misconception as well. But that shouldn't stop you. Travel is a major activity for most Americans, and writing about it adds a wonderful new dimension.

Nearby or distant. Whether it's a luxury cruise from Rome to Istanbul, an epicurean visit to the Napa Wine Country or a challenging trek though the rain forests of remote Borneo, travel offers discovery. And discovery makes fascinating stories.

Seeing new cultures and very different parts of the world is wonderful fun, but it does come with a price if you plan to write about what you find. You're not just on vacation; you are working too. To do it right, you'll spend long hours researching the destination even before you leave. Much of your time after arrival will be devoted to following up the leads your research uncovered.

But there are delightful rewards as well. You will discover people and places you never dreamed of visiting before. And you will have the satisfaction and joy of telling others about them.

For non-professionals, writing can represent a way to help finance the cost of more and more travel. But, of course, the quality of the articles you turn out will determine whether or not they are saleable. So don't embark on this route unless you are ready to spend the time and effort required to make your articles worthy of publication.

For most, especially newcomers, the compensation is quite low, usually not enough to cover the cost of the trip. But smart travel writers compensate by sending out their stories to multiple non-competitive publications as you will learn later in this article.

    Before You Go

Careful preparation is mandatory if you are to succeed in this specialized field. Once you arrive at the destination, you don't have the luxury of time to begin your research. Every professional travel writer spends long hours learning all there is to know about the destination he/she's headed for. I begin researching several months before departure so when I actually arrive I know exactly where I want to go and what I want to see and what I want to write about.

Every destination has its own unique features. They may be physical (superb beaches, challenging hiking trails, remarkable architecture) or cultural (excellent museums, fascinating folklore, unusual customs or costumes). Before you depart, it is essential that you know which of these you want to pursue.

Once there, you'll be able to supplement the knowledge you gained in your research. You'll flesh out what you learned by mingling with locals and meeting with tourism or government officials. Possibly even with local journalists. It's best to plan those formal meetings in advance and book them while you are still at home. Then you can schedule your exploration around them and be certain not to miss an opportunity.

    Finding the Unexpected

The real fun of travel is discovering something you never found in your advance research. Often the unexpected provides an entirely new angle to the original piece you planned to do. Or better yet, it may give you a second story to write and market.

Many times these discoveries develop from talking with local folks. Sometimes other tourists comment on a sight or an experience that they enjoyed or found particularly impressive. So mingle, mingle, mingle. Talk to everyone.

Try to find elements that are unfamiliar, distinctive, even strange to the average American reader as you describe the place and the people. Create an in-depth piece that will not only impress a travel editor, but also intrigue his/her readers. Quoting the people you meet (in moderation) humanizes your story, and can help readers imagine they are there with you.

    Having Fun

A smart travel writer will divide his/her time between work and play. Most times, the two seem to intermingle. Enjoy the fact that you are in these new surroundings. I try to divide my day into a morning and afternoon segment.

I spend the first four or so hours of the day confirming and expanding what I have researched, completing the interviews I scheduled and concentrating on what it is that forms the essence of the destination.

The afternoons are left for exploration. Wandering about the area, discovering things I never read about, enjoying museums, beaches and whatever else the destination offers. Just having fun. It's during these moments that the unexpected usually surfaces. Keep your eyes and ears wide open so that you can respond to any and every situation that may lead to a new article or a new angle for the piece you had originally planned.

Don't be afraid to let your curiosity run wild. It may have killed the cat in the old aphorism, but it never dulled a travel writer. Be alert to sights, scenes, tastes, smells and describe them all to your reader. They too will help you transport him/her to the places you are describing.

    Marketing Your Story

One of the stumbling blocks faced by travel newcomers is the inability to convince a travel publication to give them an assignment in advance. It is mighty tough to break into any of the leading travel magazines even when you submit a superb story.

Newspapers seldom give an advance assignment, but are far easier when it comes to placement. The problem is that newspapers are reducing the size of their travel sections and are very miserly payers. However, it is relatively easy to send your story to a number of non-competitive papers and aggregate a decent return for your work.

    Non-Travel Publications

Smart writers recognize that there is a world of opportunity awaiting them from non-travel publications. Stop for a moment and think. Every major newspaper has a weekly food section. Some magazines are devoted exclusively to food; others offer food sections. All of them are delighted to fill their pages with well researched stories on foods and delicacies in foreign countries.

If you are a trained architect, prepare a piece on the unique buildings, homes, palaces, shanties, whatever you find that is characteristic of the area. Perhaps you are an educator. Contact the education offices overseas, visit classrooms, and do a story on some aspect of education that is unique to the destination.

If you have a hobby, contact hobbyists who live in the destination and write a piece for magazines that deal with the subject. Describe the similarities or differences in the way your special interest is pursued elsewhere. As a professional or businessperson, compare operations and techniques in the country you visit with those you and your peers use here in the United States

This broad approach expands your potential market exponentially. So break out the guidebooks, do your homework, pack your bags and discover a brand new way to experience the globe.

Ossining, New York Is A Destination For More Just Than Hardened Criminals

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Chuck Saddler

There is not too much to say about the city of Ossining, New York - unless you want to talk about its almost namesake, the Sing Sing prison, built in 1825 by convicts brought in from Auburn Prison. Actually, it was an exact namesake - the town used to be called Sing Sing until the early 20th century (1901), when the local city fathers decided that they don't want 'that' kind of publicity, and changed the name of the town ever so slightly.

The prison's location - up the Hudson River from New York City - is the source of the idiom, "sent up the river."

Anyhow, the Sing Sing prison is the main thing about the town. The prison occupies prime real estate on the shore of the Hudson river, and it is located just south of the city train station. They say that the Sing Sing prison is accessible by all means of transportation. And much to the surprise of out-of-towners, the trains that run through Ossining pass right through the prison - or more accurately, when you are riding on the Metro North train from New York to Ossining, you will actually pass through a corridor that has prison walls on both sides of the tracks, for the distance of a few hundred meters.

The prison also has its own river dock and a helipad.

On a street corner in Ossining you can sometimes have a strange experience of a car driver asking for directions to Sing Sing... and you're wondering if he is just going to visit a friend who's still in jail, or maybe he was out on bail until his sentence was appealed, but now it's time for him to be in jail himself. Who knows - you probably would not to ask...

As to the town itself and its "free" residents, it sometimes seems as if the prison is the main employer for the majority of them. Not that you'd necessarily know where your neighbor works, unless you ask - but for a special event, such as the funeral of one of the guards who's left this world for the great prison in the sky, one can enjoy the sight of a solemn parade of his colleagues, in their black uniform, outside of one of the city's churches.

As to the rest of the city's free and gainfully employed residents, most seem to commute to regular jobs in New York City - about an hour's travel by car or train - or to White Plains, which is even closer than the Big Apple.

The lay of the land of Ossining is actually quite impressive: the center of the town is formed by Highland Avenue, which runs along the Hudson over much higher ground, and Broadway (yup, they have one, as many cities from New York to Vancouver do) runs down to the water, where the train station is located. In historical times, Broadway also carried workers to the boat wharf, down at the river.

The view down to the very wide Hudson river can be seen from many locations downtown, and the view is really quite impressive - this city may actually compare to many of the world's best riverside cities.

While the local architecture does not offer anything particularly remarkable, the grandeur of the natural environment far surpasses what one might expect from a city that is most well known for its prison.

As far as tourist attractions, historical sites, or even interesting ("recreational") shopping go, Ossining isn't exactly a major center for any of them. Although, adventurers may enjoy the Teatown Lake Reservation or the Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway.

Teatown is an 834-acre lake that provide 14 trails that provide nearly 15 miles of walking paths, through diverse terrain and habitats that ranges from easy/novice to moderately difficult trails. The local habitat provides hikers trails that run through abundant fields, mixed hardwood forests, laurel groves, lakes, streams, swamps and farm land. The Teatown Lake area provides access to the rich biological diversity, of the entire Hudson Hills and Highlands region, which is used annually by over 15,000 hikers for nature study and other outdoor recreational activities including jogging, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.

Also located inside the Teatown Lake Reservation, the two-acre Wildflower Island is surrounded on all sides by Teatown Lake. Accessible only by walking bridge, Wildflower Island was formed when the Bailey Brook was dammed to create Teatown Lake. It is home to over 230 native and endangered species of wildflowers, which are protected by the island's remote location and the sanctuary managers - who simply remove invasive alien plants and discourage certain local plants from taking root. The flora of Wildflower Island is unusually diverse and interesting for the observer. Experienced guides lead visitors along the paths on the island, describing the unique features of the present wildflowers, most of which are native to the local New York area. Learn more about the Teatown Lake Reservation attractions at: http://www.teatown.org/

If you enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing, you will be able to connect to the Briarcliff Peekskill Trailway and the Croton Aqueduct Trail by way of the trails at the Teatown Lake Reservation.

The Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway is a 12-mile linear park that runs from the Town of Ossining north to the Westchester County's Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill. The Briarcliff-Peekskill Trail system is just one element of the county's extensive trail system that also includes the North County Trailway, South County Trailway, the Bronx River Pathway, and the aforementioned Teatown Lake Reservation trails. From the Briarcliff-Peekskill, hikers can take in many beautiful vistas along the length of the trail system. Highlights of the journey will include the water cascading over the beautiful stone spillway at the Croton Gorge Park, and an incredible view of the Hudson River from the 560-foot high Spitzenberg Mountain at the Blue Mountain Reservation. You can learn more about the Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway at: http://www.westchestergov.com/parks/

Throughout Westchester County's 18,000 acres of parks and trails, one can also enjoy swimming, bicycling, fishing, skating, and perhaps even a picnic in the great outdoors. Each weekend, county officials make available a wide range of educational, recreational, entertainment and sporting events for people of all ages and interests.

While Ossining may seem a bit ordinary and boring - next to the Big Apple, it is actually a gateway to a day trip or family vacation that you and your kids will remember forever. Welcome to Ossining!

With all the popularity of luxury handbags, shoes and other classy items a lot of people fail to realize the growing culture that revolves around a love for sneakers. Millions of people around the world are collecting shoes, trading them, analyzing and even worshipping them. It has become a hobby as much as a style of attire. We now have TV shows, radio programs, books and complete online forums dedicated to discussing the new buzz, involving footwear. Just a few years ago Nike Air Force Ones could usually only be seen in the downtown areas of major cities. This has quickly changed as they are seen in magazines, newspapers and on the streets of even the most rural of cities. There really are no borders or boundaries anymore when it comes to their popularity. It is not uncommon to see a middle-aged mother of three rocking the freshest kicks on the market. Sneakers just simply are not for the hip-hop teenagers anymore. Their comfort, appeal and overall style are sought after by people of all ages from all parts of the world.

While there are a number of popular shoe companies and styles including K. While first appearing in major rap videos and in the heart of urban streets, they have now become as mainstream, as a baseball cap or designer jeans. There seems to be no end in sight for this trend and who knows, maybe one day, fresh new sneakers will be accepted at high class, black tie affairs. One can only dream, right?

Why Chicago is a Classic Sports Town

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Ryan Hogan

Chicago is one of the best sports towns in America. Not only do they have knowledgeable and passionate fans but they also have some of the oldest franchises and some of the most hallowed playing fields in all of sports.

Chicago is home to several professional, semi-professional, and collegiate sports teams as well as several world-class sporting events. It's no surprise that a city as large as Chicago has five teams competing in the four premiere North American professional sports leagues.

The "Monster of the Midway," the Chicago Bears, play at venerated Soldier Field. Known as the "Da Bears," this charter member of the NFL has produced a plethora of footballs legends. Hall of Famers Bronko Nagurski, Red Grange, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, Walter Payton and Mike Singletary have all played for the Bears.

In 1985, the Bears dominated the league on their way to winning Super Bowl XX. They also showed the world how well they could sing and dance by releasing the song, and subsequent video, "The Super Bowl Shuffle."

The city of Chicago is fortunate enough to have two baseball teams, both over one-hundred years old, that play in the Major Leagues. The Chicago White Sox play at US Cellular Field and have won three World Series, the last one coming in 2005.

The White Sox have some great nicknames, "the South Siders", "the Pale Hose" and "the ChiSox."

The "North Siders," or the Chicago Cubs, are probably the most popular team in not only the Major Leagues but in all of sports. The Cubs play in one of the shinning cathedrals of American sports, Wrigley Field. The Cubbies have been playing ball since 1876 and are a charter member of the National League.

Adding to the team's charm is their over 100-year title drought, the longest of any major North American professional sports team. The Cubs are the quintessential lovable losers.

The Chicago Bulls won six NBA titles in the 1990's thanks to the skill and leadership of greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan. That team was coached by Phil Jackson and also featured all-star forward Scottie Pippen. The Bulls haven't fared well since "MJ" retired, but they are still one of the NBA's premiere franchises.

What the Cubs are to the National League, the Chicago Blackhawks are to the National Hockey League. The Blackhawks were founded in 1926 and are one of the "Original Six" NHL teams. In their storied history, they've won three Stanley Cup Championships and 13 division championships. They last hoisted the cup in 1961.

Both the Bulls and the Blackhawks play at the United Center. That building opened in 1994 and replaced the legendary "Madhouse On Madison," Chicago Stadium. On the east side of the United Center you'll find a statue of Michael Jordan.

That's enough teams to make any town happy, but the City Of Broad Shoulders has even more to offer sports fans.

The Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association plays at the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion. That's a mouth full so most people just call the 6,900 seat arena the UIC Pavilion.

Most WNBA teams utilize the same colors and the same nickname, although it's generally feminized, as their NBA counterpart. However, the Sky are not associated with the Bulls whatsoever. Makes sense, it's probably not a good idea to call a women's pro-team the "Cows."

Toyota Park, located in nearby Bridgeview, Illinois, just 13 miles from the Chicago Loop, is home to the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. Incidentally, the Fire were founded on the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

The Fire franchise experienced immediate success winning both the MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup in their inaugural year of 1998. Since then they have won three more U.S. Open Cups.

At Allstate Arena you'll find the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, they are an affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers. The Rush, an Arena Football League team, also plays there. One of the team's owners is Chicago legend Mike Ditka, he coached the Bears to victory in Super Bowl XX.

Chicago has two rugby teams, the Lions RFC and their rivals Griffins RFC. The Lions play on the campus of Northeastern Illinois and the Griffins play at Schiller Woods in Schiller Park, about 12 miles away from downtown Chicago. By the way, the Twinkie was invented in Schiller Park.

The Sports Complex at Judson University, located in nearby Elgin, Illinois, is home to the Chicago Bandits, a professional women's softball team. They play in a league called National Pro Fastpitch or NPF.

The Chicago Force of the Independent Women's Football League plays tackle football at the Holmgren Athletic Complex located at North Park University. Most of their games kick off at 3pm.

Bank of America's Chicago Marathon is one of the running world's five major marathons. It's flat and fast course draws runners from far and wide while its prize money lures the world's elite long distance runners. The race generally takes place in early October with first-come-first-served registration beginning in February.

Auto racing can be found just an hour away from downtown Chicago. The Chicagoland Speedway is a 1.5 mile track that hosts both IndyCar events and NASCAR events including the Sprint, Nationwide, and Truck series. The speedway opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 75,000.

As you can see, Chicago is a sports fans' paradise. If the sport has a ball, puck, or if it's on wheels, it's being played, or raced, in the Windy City. While the Cubs and the Bears get most of the headlines, the city of Chicago has enough passion to support all their teams. Chicago is the classic American sports town.

    The Gamble Question

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

Why do people gamble? It certainly is an interesting question, one that we don't often think about when we do actually gamble. Gambling as an art has been around since the early days of the human race. Chugging around slowly during the ice ages, it pulsed with the hearts of the Romans during the days of the gladiator's. Today, it can be found in every single game known to man. And a few relatively unknown ones - like the good ole game of "Is he or is he not going to fall over that chair?"

Gambling, in the long run, is mostly an expensive sport which brings attention to the question of why people do it. There are too many forms by which gambling is practiced but various forms have established themselves as methods of choice.

Card games are an especially common medium for gambling. It's almost unheard of to actually be involved in a simply friendly game of poker. Overnight poker has become the media icon for gamblers as far as card games go. Poker tournaments are broadcasted monthly on TV. Back when I was a kid, my mum used to frown so much every time she saw me with a deck of cards that I had to learn a couple of card tricks overnight to prove that I really was interested in becoming a Magician.

Betting on sports is also very common. People wager on matches to be played, gambling on their selected team winning the game. Horses suffer a similar fate. Every week they launch themselves into the race pitch, knowing that far more than the weight of their jockeys is hanging on their backs. Gambling is extremely risky. In the end, most people end up losing their wagers, but this doesn't stop them from returning and again repeating the process.

Why do people gamble? What is it about the act that draws millions daily? The reasons aren't really that hard to see. People long for a medium to escape or forget about their problems. During poker nights, the worries of the office are happily chucked aside for the game. Another reason behind the urge is the fun and excitement involved. Like it or not Gambling is exciting. Losing one's money might not be much fun in the end, but the thrill behind the idea that you could make some money is not that hard to understand.

Some people gamble for a good cause, charity being the top most good cause. If a person wins the bet or gamble, all proceeds are donated to the charity. If they lose, they are satisfied by the fact, that it was all for a worthwhile cause.

There are some people that gamble as a means of unwinding and letting lose. When they gamble, they are able to relax and forget about everything else.

Some people gamble because of the challenge behind the act. Being able to play a game and come out victorious over your friends. The old Alpha male complex! With the abolishment of hunting and jousting there are very few mediums left in which true challenge can be experienced. Gambling remains one of them.

With the plethora of websites on the Internet that cater to various forms of betting and gambles, it's no wonder that people are drawn into gambling. Online gambling has made become increasingly competitive with each website offering people exciting and tempting offers. This draws people to such sites, and is extremely hard to resist. In fact, online poker and is the latest craze on the Internet.

In the end, perhaps the most recurring reason behind gambling is the need to make something out of nothing. People gamble because they see it as good chance to make some money out of a night's fun. This is perhaps the most worrying of reasons. When one's livelihood rests on the roll of a dice, the fun and act of the game can quickly get overshadowed by the depression that comes with frequent losses.

Whatever the reasons might be, we all gamble. And given the history of its resilient existence, I believe we will all still be gambling in some time to come.

How to Save Money on Your Wedding - Even During a Down Economy

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Sarah Simmons

Weddings are expensive to plan at anytime, but during the current economy, it can seem downright impossible to pull off the perfect wedding. But have no fear brides, for there ARE ways to have your dream wedding without breaking the bank. Follow these foolproof tips to stay within your budget, and even save money, while planning your wedding:

    Prioritize, Prioritize, Prioritize!

First things first make a list of the most important things you want for your wedding and have your fiancé do the same. Are you most committed to having a designer gown, inviting 500 of your closest friends and family, serving filet mignon and lobster or hosting the wedding in Tahiti? Knowing your priorities will help you decide what to spend money on, and what you don't mind skimping on or doing without.

    Timing is Everything

Consider having your wedding any day but Saturday. Fridays and Sunday are also popular wedding days but may cost a lot less than a Saturday event, or for even greater savings, choose a weekday evening for your wedding. Choose a date between November and April to avoid higher peak season rates in many areas, and consider having your wedding during the day, such as a weekend brunch or a luncheon on Saturday or Sunday. Any of these suggestions can significantly lower venue costs.

    It Never Hurts to Ask

Don't be afraid to ask for deals when negotiating the costs for your cake, flowers, and reception hall. For example, offer to pay up-front in exchange for an overall discount. This can be useful in negotiating the price on your cake, flowers or venue. When planning your ceremony or reception at a hotel, ask to speak to a manager who is in charge of these services. A manager should be in a position to offer the best rates for the hotel's services.

It's All About Who You Know...

Ask friends to lend their talents by helping out with such things as invitations, flowers, and programs. Borrow a friend's printer, to print out Do-It-Yourself wedding invitations, or ask your favorite Aunt to bake your cake. Assembling fresh or silk flowers yourself can save you hundreds of dollars, and some of the most attractive wedding programs are printed from a home computer and then creatively assembled with accessories such as ribbon, lace or decorative buttons.

...But Not EVERY ONE You Know

One of the most difficult, but sometimes necessary cost saving measures is to trim the guest list. Invite only the people who are important to you, rather than everyone you know. Take off guests who might feel obligated to come to the wedding if they are invited, but would not have their feelings hurt if they are not asked to attend, and think of inviting only relatives with whom you have a close relationship.

    Prioritize Some More

Look at your goals as a couple beyond the wedding day, and remember that your wedding is just one day in a life-long commitment. If you want to purchase a house in the next few years, keeping that as a priority throughout the wedding planning process will help you to be prudent about how much you spend on that one day.

    Gambling Myths

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

Few areas of human activity are so immersed in superstition and myth as gambling. Many gamblers do believe in "good" and "bad" luck, playing a part in their gambling success or failure and often carry "good luck charms" or have rituals they perform before going to play. Unless the belief in "luck" becomes obsessive, it is usually harmless.

Far more insidious are the myths, some based on superstition, which surrounds gambling. The myths that even the most intelligent and realistic gamblers are willing to accept is often truly surprising.

The very fact that all gambling is a matter of luck and chance is itself a myth. If that were so, over a period of time most gamblers would break even. In that case where would the casinos, either real or online, get their profits from? While luck and chance do affect the outcome of each gamble, the odds are always stacked in favor of the casino. Complex mathematical formulae and probability calculations are used to set up the games so that the house always has a fixed advantage over the player. This is not cheating - it is business. Once these odds are established in favor of the house, the rest is left to luck and chance. But it is never a fifty - fifty chance. The house advantage is kept small. If it were too big, players would be discouraged. But even this small advantage totals up to huge sums because the volumes are so large.

There are some games like blackjack and poker that have a lot of myths about them. The biggest of them is the "betting system." There's always a story going around of someone, somewhere who has a fool proof betting system that guarantees success. Let us accept the fact that this is, and always will be, bunkum. There is no such thing as a foolproof gambling system. If there were, it wouldn't be gambling. Gambling is a huge multi billion dollar industry with high internal standards and self checks. If any system that could beat the odds ever does appear, the first people to spot it and counter it will be the casinos. And they have all the resources needed to do it.

Card counting is a myth that has always hung around blackjack and poker tables. There are some mathematical formulae that could help to increase the chances of knowing the likelihood of the next card to be dealt. But it has never been proven that this offers any serious advantage to the gambler. Secondly, card counting in a fast moving card game would require a mathematical talent and mental computing genius that maybe one person in few million may have.

Slot machines have one major myth that has always surrounded them. And that is that the casinos are able to influence the results. This is done not to cheat the players but to ensure that too many big wins do not come too close together and, on the other hand, that a long period does not go by without a win. This is done to keep the players happy and encouraged. Beyond that, the casinos do not care who wins or loses. This is not possible with real slot machines or with online ones since, firstly, the control system would be detected sooner or later. And secondly and more importantly, it is not required. The odds are such that over a period of a month the spacing of the winnings and their volume will be what the casinos have planned for.

A myth that is applicable only to physical casinos is that of special treatment given to "high rollers." Yes, high rollers do get complimentary rooms, along with food and drink. Yes they are given special treatment in the casino. But the myth that this is given only to those who win big, so that they are tempted to come back to play again and, hopefully, lose their winnings, is a myth. These facilities are provided to people who gamble with a large amount of money and it doesn't matter if they have won or lost. In fact, providing these facilities to a loser is more important because it makes him feel compensated, at least to some extent, for his loss and creates a bond with the casino so that he will come back again, when he has the money.

There's nothing wrong with gambling, if you use it the right way - as means of having fun, as a hobby or a way of de stressing. The danger comes when the roles get reversed and gambling starts using you. When you start to gamble not to relax, but because you get tense when you are not gambling, you have a serious problem. With online gambling being so prevalent and easy to access, this is now becoming a serious problem.

Gambling addiction has a great deal of social stigma attached to it. While things like alcohol and drug addiction are met with a certain amount of sympathy, people tend to feel that a person dependent on these things is one who could not face life's pressures and took the easy way out. These people need sympathy and help to recover. Gambling addicts, on the other hand, are often treated a selfish, self centered people who do not care for their families and are throwing away their and their families futures by gambling away all their money.

Gambling addiction is understood by mental health professionals to be an emotional problem and has the same roots as any other form of addiction. Gambling addiction needs to be viewed in the same way as other extreme emotional states like acute anxiety and depression. To treat it merely as a case of a weak or immature personality is to misunderstand the problem and treat it the wrong way.

Like all addicts, the gambling addict will have moments of clarity when he will appreciate what the addiction is doing to his life and to his family. Again, like other addicts, he may make some weak efforts to cure himself and will, in 95% of the cases, fail. He then accepts his addiction as being incurable and inevitable and feels that he has no choice but to gamble. The descent into disaster only accelerates from here.

But gambling addiction is not just treatable, it is curable. There are no magic bullets or pills that can remove the problem overnight. It is a long haul and the cured gambling addict, like the reformed drinker or drug addict, will have to spend the rest of his life being careful about falling back into the trap. But this is a very small price to pay for escaping from the hole.

Gambling addicts rarely see the problems they have, and if they do, forget about it in their desire to gamble. There are fours easy checks to know if you have a gambling addiction. Be completely honest with yourself and ask yourself if you or someone you care about has these symptoms:

  • Do you feel the need to be secretive about your gambling? Do you hide it or lie about it?

  • Once you start, are you able to stop at a predetermined point - either at a fixed time or when you have lost a fixed amount of money? Or do you keep on gambling until you are exhausted and / or have no money left?

  • Do you gamble even when you can't afford it? Are you spending money meant for other purposes on gambling - money for school fees, utility bills and so on?

  • Are those who care worried about you? Even if they haven't said anything as yet, do you sense they are concerned about you?

  • Forget about having all of these symptoms, having even one of them is enough of a cause for concern. Even one symptom is a sign of if not full blown addiction, at least a sign of being well on the way to becoming an addict.

Cure and treatment is only possible if the person is both honest enough to see that he has a problem and also has a desire to be cured of it. It is not possible to treat someone who does not want to be treated.

Gambling addicts wanting to be cured must accept the fact that this is an emotional disorder and that they will not be able to deal with it themselves. It is normal to feel ashamed of having the problem and therefore reluctant to ask for help. But this is not something that can be self treated. This is a medical condition that needs to be treated by qualified professionals.

    How To Stop Gambling

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

There's nothing wrong with gambling - if it's done the right way. As a sport, as a hobby, as a stress buster, there are many ways in which gambling can be good for you. But, and this is a big but, there are even more ways in which gambling can, not only be bad for you, it can ruin your life. It is all a matter of how your treat gambling and the role it plays in your life.

If gambling has become more than a sport, a hobby or a stress buster, its time for you to step back from it and rethink the extent of your involvement. We're not talking of gambling addiction here - just a stage where gambling is playing a more important role in your life than it should. This is a dangerous road to travel because if you don't turn back while it's easy, you may find yourself addicted - something you thought happened to other people. Like all addictions, it is easy to fool yourself into believing that you are not addicted or on the road to it. You always know you can stop when you want to, but you don't want to. Why should you - there are so many reasons you can think of to carry on. And all of them, to you, are valid.

Allowing gambling to start controlling your life does not mean that you sit in front of your computer 24/7 playing games for money and living on cigarettes, booze, coffee and junk food. That is only the final stage. The thing to know is if you are on your way there and quit while you can. How do you know if you need to stop gambling? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you find that you have less spending money these days? And you don't know where the cash went?

  • Are you less interested in your non work related activities than you used to be?

  • Are you socializing less than before?

  • Are you finding more reasons not to go in to work? And are you less motivated about your work when you are doing it?

  • Do you find yourself avoiding your friends?

  • Do you owe money? Are you borrowing to repay what you borrowed earlier?

  • If you find that any of these are happening to you, even in a small way, you need to seriously think about stopping gambling. Stop it now while you can and when it still relatively easy. Admit you have a problem and begin your cure before others have to step in and do it for you.

The first thing you need to do is tell you friends that you think you need to stop gambling and that you need their help. Ask them to help you out for a short while by making extra time for you. When you feel the urge to go online and gamble, go and spend some time with these people. Go and physically meet them - get out of the house. Online chatting is no good - you need a change of environment.

But you may get bored and feel like gambling at night when it's too late to visit people. What do you do then? What you need to do is load some of the easily available software that will block your access to online gambling sites. Since you can't gamble on line, you will need to be occupied. Try reading, cooking, watching TV - whatever appeals to you. And if you find that you are happier online, even if you are not gambling, go ahead and visit some chat rooms or support groups or whatever you feel like doing.

These may seem like simple things that are so basic anyone can think of them. That's true, but the problem lies in knowing when you need to use them. With full fledged addiction, everyone will know you have a problem even if you don't and will try to help you. With an initial unhealthy level of preoccupation in gambling, the situation is reversed - only you will know you have a problem.

Try out these simple steps for a couple of months and you will find your life getting back on track. It's much easier to do in the early stages before you need to cancel you credit cards and join Gamblers Anonymous.

How The Internet Has Changed The World...

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2007-2009 Braxton Heitz

As most of us sit down at our computers each day, we might realize that we have begun to take this Information Age for granted. What would we do if we did not have 24/7 Internet connections to keep us connected to the world?

    Online Bill Pay

When it is time to pay bills, we logon to the Internet, pull out our debit cards or credit cards, and then we get to work paying our bills online. It is no longer the case where we have to sit down at the dining room table with our checkbook, a stack of bills, and a book of stamps.

Back in those dark days of the pre-Internet existence, we were not yet done with bill paying when we licked that last stamp. Instead, we had to jump in the car and run down to the post office to get the checks in the mail. If we had paid our bills close to their deadlines, then we had to sweat whether our payment would arrive on time. If we were really worried about our payment arriving at the other end of the transaction on time, we would take time out of our lunch hour to run to the bill collector's office to make our payment just under the wire.

    Mom Online

Yes, back in those old days, we used to call mom on the phone once a week to check in and catch up. Now, we can logon to our favorite Internet chat client or call her on our Internet phone and talk to mom everyday. We can even share pictures of the kids with mom through our Myspace accounts.

    Online Education

Back in those grand old days, if we wanted to learn something of value to our lives, we needed to go to the library or bookstore and check out or buy a book that would answer our questions about the world around us. It was either that or we had to enroll at a nearby college and take classes relevant to our interests.

Today, it is much different. Nearly any topic that might be of interest to us can be learned, after a trip to our favorite search engines. We might have to pay to gain access to the information we want, but in many cases, information is handed out like candy on Halloween, on the Internet.

We could even go further and enroll at a major university online. We can now take classes and get a degree at our favorite university or college, even if we live one thousand miles away from the school.

    Local Shopping

Back in the day, in order to find out what great sales were running at the national chains, we had to subscribe to a newspaper for the full week and take the time to review the paper everyday to make sure we did not miss those important sales.

Now, we pop open an Internet browser and navigate to the website of the chain store we are interested and click through to their sales circular page. What does Wal-Mart have on sale? Let's go to their webpage. What about Napa Auto Parts stores? Let's go their webpage. How about "Ace, the helpful hardware place"? Let's load up their website. Walgreens --- what kinds of specials do "they" have this week? We are off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz (also known as Al Gore, the guy who "invented" the Internet).

    Comparison Shopping

Before the World Wide Web, if we wanted to know the "skinny" on a particular product we were interested in buying, we would need to ask friends. For an expert opinion, we would need to subscribe to Consumer Reports, or take our chances by visiting the local store that sold the product and have faith that the salesperson was not loading our brains full of commission-biased opinion.

These days, we can go online to learn all about any single product or service we might be interested in purchasing. Even better, we can look at a cross-section of products under the same classification and make an intelligent decision based on factual research. If we put our minds to it, we could even pull up customer reviews on the products we want to purchase.

The sky is the limit. We can do as little or as much research as we would like to do on a single product or service and be happy with our final decision.

    Dig Up In-Depth Product Specifications

Sometimes, we can trust the Sears salesman not to lead us astray in our purchase selections. It is pretty straight forward as to which brand of wrenches will give us the best performance over many years or to find out which 27" television has the best picture.

But, with other product groups, a cursory glance will not deliver the be-all-end-all analysis that we need to make intelligent shopping decisions. Such examples include insurance products or financial products such as credit cards and loans.

If you have to ask yourself what the difference between a term-life insurance policy and a whole-life policy, then you need to get some really in-depth information to make a good purchase decision. There are insurance websites and information websites that will pass this kind of information along to you. They may even let you apply online for a new insurance policy and give you an instant approval for your new policy.

The same mindset will often accompany your interest in learning about credit card products. With so many choices and options available, it is hard to know which credit card offer or credit card rewards program will be best for your needs.

The beauty of the Internet is that the answer to all of these questions and more are right at your fingertips.

Credit card offers range from gas credit cards, student credit cards, low APR credit cards and even 0% interest credit cards. Among this range of credit card types and special offers, many banks also offer credit card points in the form of airline miles, credit card travel rewards, cash-back rewards programs, and store credit at your favorite chain stores or restaurants.

So, how do you know which credit card will be best for your needs? All you have to do is to start with a plan as to what you would like to gain from a credit card, and eliminate credit card offers that do not match your needs. Then do a side-by-side analysis of those credit card offers that remain to see which one will deliver to you the best value for your dollars.

Don't be afraid to dig in and get the facts on any product you may be interested in buying. I have learned a lot on the Internet about insurance products, credit card plans, and high-definition televisions. Even when I had questions that the Circuit City salesperson could not answer, I was able to turn up that important information on the Internet.

    Longing For The Old Days

No, I don't really long for the old days anymore, except when my Internet connection is down for more than just a few hours.

If I want to add a credit card to my wallet, I only need to decide which one I want and then fill out the online credit card application. If I want to buy car insurance, I can shop around for the best policy and buy it right then online, without having to go to an agent's office. If I want to shop for a better price on my next software purchase, all I have to do is to go to a shopping website and compare prices.

The Internet has improved the experience of my life one-hundred-fold, and I do not want to ever have to return to those days before dial-up. Before I came on the Internet, I did not even know why I would want to buy more than one type of home insurance. Now, I sweat if I might miss my payment.

If you take the time to search and research the Internet for the information that will help you to make better shopping decisions, you might just find as I have that the Internet is something that you never want to live without ever again.

Retirement Is the Perfect Time to Fulfill Your Cherished Dream of Writing

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Charles Jacobs

The Gallup Survey Organization says 81% of mature adults long to write a book. You're probably one of them.

In a poll sponsored by the Eons.com web site, 14,000 Seniors and Boomers chose writing as one of their most cherished life dreams.

What's your choice for retirement writing? The novel you've always dreamed of crafting? Perhaps a memoir for loved ones? Maybe you'd prefer to turn out interesting magazine articles on the favorite hobby you've pursued for so many years. Like many others, you may want to maintain contact with your former career by writing articles for trade magazines or possibly a how-to book.

What's holding you back? Are you reluctant because writing seems to be so challenging? Limited to just the chosen few? That's nonsense. Don't let those myths keep you from trying what you've always dreamed of.

    Retirement Writing

As a retiree you have great advantages that will help you to fulfill your dream of becoming a published author. You have time...free time at last to pursue the activities you love. You bring years of life experience and professional knowledge to the task.

Can you use those advantages to become a published author? Certainly you can. You'll probably never reach best seller status, although some late starters have accomplished that feat. But with some effort and dedication, you can see your words in print as an article or a book. And they can be distributed over the Internet for millions to see.

It's time to move beyond the starting gate. Set aside those fears of failure. No task can be completed if it isn't begun. No challenge overcome until it is tackled. So it is with writing. Once you start, you'll see your confidence build.

Lawrence Block, a prolific novelist and writing instructor, says, "Writing has this in common with most other skills; we develop it best by practicing it. Whatever writing we do helps us to become better writers."

    Before You Face the Computer

The process begins well before you sit down at your computer to write the opening lines of your new gem. A bit of self-searching will put you on track. Think through your answers to several key questions:

  • Why do I want to write? Is my goal self-fulfillment? Do I have a message I want to deliver to others? Do I want the thrill of seeing my words in print? Am I trying to supplement my income?

  • What category of writing can best help me attain that goal? What category is most comfortable for me?

  • Do I want to write just a single piece (a memoir, for example)? Or do I hope to make writing a new career?

  • How much time am I willing to devote to the task?

  • Will I be happier writing articles or a book?

  • Whatever your answers may be, be absolutely certain you are comfortable with them. This is particularly important if you plan to write a full-length book, for you will be married to that task for a substantial length of time.

    Making Your Choice

Beginning writers regularly ask, "Where can I find ideas?" The answer, in short, is the world around you. There are no limits to the ideas that astute observers can develop. And writers must be alert spectators.

Ideas abound right in your own home. Coping with a dear one's terminal illness. Issues that caused a divorce. Secrets of a relationship that grows stronger with every year of marriage. An unusual family heritage. Cooking or decorating ideas. Unique holiday celebrations. The list is endless.

Beyond your four walls there is an endless storehouse of ideas. You find them all around you by listening and watching and hearing what friends and relatives talk about. Stories, books and articles are built around events and emotions that people experience.

You can also find them every day in the newspaper. You can choose to follow up a factual report and expand it far beyond what a rushed reporter can do on a tight deadline. Or you can choose to take the idea and fictionalize it, adding your own twists and turns.

A book like Writer's Market, updated annually by Writer's Digest Books is a treasure trove of ideas. It offers hundreds of pages of periodical listings categorized by subject. Freelancers use it as a bible to locate publications that might use their stories. You can use it as a trigger for ideas as you flip through the 50 categories of consumer magazines and 60 categories of trade journals.

    Getting Ready

Whether you're about to embark on a novel or nonfiction, an article or a full length book, you're not ready to face that blank computer monitor until you've completed all of your initial homework. That includes evaluating the responses to the question listed above..

Most fiction writers begin by drafting an outline of the plot. As each main character is fully developed-and you as the author must know those key players as well as you know yourself--changes will be necessitated in the outline. You must research the locale(s) and the time period of the book, for nothing can cause a reader to lose interest faster than discovering factual mistakes made by a careless writer.

The essence of nonfiction is fact, and you better know your facts intimately and accurately if you are to achieve success. Whether you are writing an historical piece or a how-to, do your research. Know your subject. Those of you who choose to write on your work specialty better make certain you are up to date on all the latest developments. Always remember that progress didn't end on the day you retired. Change has occurred, and you better be aware of it.

The key word here is research. Getting up to speed. Knowing your subject intimately. Without this, you run the serious risk of suffering from the author's dread disease, Writer's Block. It usually results from facing a stark white computer screen that seems to leer at you, challenging you to make the leap from brain to computer, from thought to the reality of converting those thoughts into words and placing them on the computer. Writers who have done their research well and know their subject will seldom if ever face this problem.

The one last component that you must agree to is discipline. Whether you choose to devote only two or three hours a day to your writing or anticipate making it a full-time job, it cannot be hit-or-miss. You must set a rigid schedule, and follow it. A few hours each morning leaves lots of time for other activities, yet adds a hugely enriching complement to your retirement years.

Nationwide Audiences Revel In Wicked Fun During Wicked: The Musical

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Lynda Belcher

In my opinion, the best stories are those that are about the "other guy." You know, the one who would never normally get the spotlight or have his story told if it were not for the main story line of a TV show, book or movie.

Some people might refer to this character as the underdog, but this is not always an accurate assessment. The "other guy" doesn't always have an underdog quality. This about it like this: would anyone care about Apollo Creed's story if it weren't for Rocky? Would any want to know a lick about Chewbacca if it weren't for the rest of the Star Wars gang?

This same principle could be applied to the witches of "Wicked: The Musical," which tells the true story of the two witches from the classic movie "The Wizard of Oz."

In the movie, who really cared about the witches in a deeper sense?

After all, the good witch was pretty and helped Dorothy on her merry way and the other witch, the one from the west, was an evil, evil woman with a leftover green spa pack left on her face for far too long. "The Wizard of Oz" was all about sweet little Dorothy and the mutt following her around here, there and everywhere.

Aaaah, but "Wicked" is all about the witches, my pretty. The show provides some very important background information on these women. It starts by telling us how Elphaba (I'd be wicked with a name like that, too) and Glinda, the good witch, struggle to maintain their friendship amidst completely different backgrounds, personalities and points-of-view.

Oh yeah, and of course they like the same guy.

I won't spoil the entire plotline, but suffice to say, you understand by the end of the musical why the two take such separate paths in life. Mostly set before Dorothy steps on the scene fresh from her Kansas farm, there are several references in Wicked from The Wizard of Oz.

Thus far, Wicked has been a smash success playing to audiences around the world. Currently touring some of America's biggest cities, audiences now have the opportunity to pick up Wicked the Musical Seattle tickets as well as Wicked San Francisco tickets. Even the Mile High City is getting a wicked piece of action with Wicked Denver tickets currently on sale.

And while most fans think that the touring show could never be as good as the original, this is most certainly not the case with this musical. The touring version of Wicked the Musical Broadway is every bit as good as the original production.

This has a lot to do with the fact that the show's creators have taken care to maintain an eye on the various performances around the country, ensuring the same stage quality, high caliber of acting and overall amazing theatrical performance that audiences get when they take in a show in NYC.

Moreover, the fact that it has taken in $14 million on Broadway alone and at least $1.4 billion worldwide is certainly some level of testament to the show's ability to dazzle audiences. Wicked is a theatrical delight for fans of the original book to those that loved the movie to those that simply want to know the story of the "other guy."

    Growing Popularity of Online Gambling

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

It seems almost like yesterday that the internet swept in and changed the world as we knew it. For instance - the internet revolutionized the world's messaging system. The postal mail, previously the lone method of choice, not only got replaced by the blisteringly fast email, it consequently got renamed the snail mail. The internet also revolutionized the way the world communicated with each other - Information was able to travel much faster. Almost overnight, Internet lounges emerged in which people from different cultures could relate with just a click of a button.

And with the advent of the internet came the evolution of a new form of adventurous gaming. That of online gambling!

Gambling is an art as captivating as it is old. Before the advent of the internet gambling enthusiasts had the annoying problem of location to ponder. Enthusiasts were forced to travel to casinos before they could gamble on their favorite games. People betting on sports had to visit the offices of their bookies. All this is easily solved with the internet.

Online gambling has grown in popularity over the years. Because of its easy availability, more and more people are finding themselves hooked to this new form of art.

There are numerous sites online where you can place bets on your favorite sports.

Football sites are particularly common for betting pools. Football has always been a popular sport. With countless football teams hosted by different leagues, the wide range of teams brings with it a variety and a large pool of options. Placing bets can simply be done with just the click of a button.

Another familiar form of online gambling is Poker. In 2003 Chris Moneymaker (real name) won a seat in the 2003 World poker tournament through a $39 satellite tournament that was played on an online poker room. He then went on to win the tournament carrying with him the $2.5 million prize money.

Even Lesser Sports Are Now Growing An Audience

It is not uncommon to see sites hosting games of Chess or scrabble where the results are betted on. The increase in the people's online involvement in gambling is not exactly foolhardy. These days it is actually more likely to win money gambling that it was in the past.

Computer security reduces the risk of tampering or cheating - forms that were pretty much common in earlier offline versions of the game, and more or less reduced your chances of winning. In football sites for instance, it is possible to be safe by placing bets on clubs that have a long history of winning. You might win small, but you will win.

Despite its relative sophistication, the rules of internet gambling are mostly still the same as its predecessor. Caution is advised. Wagering on amounts you cannot afford is extremely foolhardy. It is also smart to stay within losses you can handle. It is not impossible to make an income out of online handling. Like physical gambling though, it will depend a lot on your talent, mental stamina and wit.

It will also require that you need a computer, a comfortable sofa and sometimes a soundproof room with a door, which you can lock from within.

Important Tips To Remember With Online Gambling

Online gambling as with any gambling has many risks, and it's important to take precautions when you can.

Before placing a bet on an online gambling site, make sure you try out the free option - that is to get accustomed to the game and understand how it works. Never start, with betting real money. You want to make sure you know the nuances of the game before you start.

Also, make sure you stay within your limits. It's easy to get carried away, especially since there's no visible money involved.

The great thing with online gambling is that you can read tips, suggestions and tricks posted at various places on the Internet. This can help you improve your game, and you can develop some strategy.

Also, given the number of websites that are available online, make sure that you check the reputation of the website before you place any bets on it. Research is an important part of online gambling, so make sure that you do your homework.

    Understanding Compulsive Gambling

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Skyler Ace

People gamble for many reasons. Some do it for the pure thrill and fun of it, and others just because they're feeling lucky, and many do it out of habit. There are some people who gamble as a way to relax, socialize or just escape from everyday lives. Whatever the reason may be, gambling becomes a problem when it is done in excess. In fact, people often don't realize that it's become an addiction, until they are in so deep and affects normal life.

An uncontrollable urge to continue gambling, irrespective of the consequences it has on your life is known as compulsive gambling. Compulsive gambling is an extremely serious condition and can cause vast destruction.

The internet is filled with sites dedicated to the art of gambling, but not all of them are built to encourage gambling. There are sites that are built to help gamblers who have come to realize they have developed a problem - they have become an addict of the profession.

Gambling anonymous is just one of many forums that are springing up to help people who have become obsessed with gambling (also called compulsive gambling). With the relative ease by which online gambling can be begun, and the wide variety of options the internet presents, stumbling on sites promoting gambling is very easy. Even easier is finding a niche in the vast gambling world that will appeal to the individual.

As an art, gambling has always had high addictive properties. It is why people are advised to decide on a betting limit, before they begin and urged to resist from borrowing or chasing their losses. But despite the warnings most people fall prey to these mistakes and over time, develop a slow pattern that soon spirals into the destructive spin of compulsive gambling. Compulsive gamblers are people who have allowed the art to take over, thus their lives resulting in far reaching social and psychological effects.

How Do You Know If You Are A Compulsive Gambler?

There are many ways of determining if a person is a compulsive gambler. Gamblers anonymous, offers the following questions to help in deciding if a person is suffering from compulsive gambling. They will usually answer yes, to any 7 of the following.

    1. Does gambling cause you to skip work?

    2. Is your home life a mess due to gambling?

There Is More To Hershey, Pennsylvania Than Chocolate

Hershey, Pennsylvania is a great location to take a vacation.

While it is bustling with tourists in the summer, it is a quaint, small town that is very welcoming and full of beautiful scenery year around.

There are lots of different attractions you can visit if you come to Hershey. Conveniently, it is also less than 20 minutes away from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital, which has additional entertainment, venues and museums to visit.

In Hershey, the main attraction you should go to is Hershey Park. Hershey Park is a large amusement park with lots of roller coasters, small rides, kids rides, arcade games, a water park, tons of food and restaurants, gift shops, you name it! The park is very large and some people buy two-day passes, but you can also buy a one-day pass or a night-pass.

Adjacent to Hershey Park is Hershey's Chocolate World, a free venue that has a free tour ride through the chocolate factory. There is also several gift shops that have a wide selection of candies and apparel for sale, as well as lots of other merchandise.

There are several places to eat inside Chocolate World, including a cafe, food court, and an ice cream, fudge and cookie stand to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Chocolate World also has a 3D show about Milton S. Hershey, and there is also a Trolley Ride through the town with actors who depict the history of Hershey and how Milton S. Hershey started Hershey's Chocolate.

If you are visiting Hershey sometime other than the summer season, Hershey Park and Chocolate World will still be available to you.

Hershey Park is open in the fall for Hershey Park in the Dark; in the winter for Christmas Candy lane; and in the spring for Springtime in the Park. Chocolate World is open all year round.

If you visit Hershey over Christmastime, there is a great Christmas lights show called Sweet Lights. You drive through it, so you only need to pay a certain amount per car. The lights are beautiful and amazing, and the light show organizers create pictures using the lights.

Other attractions to visit in Hershey include the Hershey Museum, the Hershey Gardens and The Hershey Outlets. These attractions are informative, beautiful and relaxing.

The Hershey Outlets is bringing in new and better stores every year, making it a great and affordable place to shop! Another place you can visit while in Hershey is the Hershey Hotel. Even if you don't stay in the Hotel, you can visit their spa, and pamper yourself by getting a massage, manicure/pedicure, or Chocolate mask.

In addition to the various attractions, Hershey boasts two huge arenas that host a large number of big bands and musical acts throughout the year. The Giant Center and Hershey Stadium have musical concerts, ice shows, circuses, etc... all throughout the year. If you go online to ticketmaster.com and search Hershey, the concert shows and prices will appear.

The Hershey theatre is another option that visitors can partake during their trip to Hershey. Although there are not shows every week throughout the year, the Hershey Theatre puts on great professional plays and musicals, as well as local dance recitals, plays and musicals.

In conclusion, Hershey Pennsylvania is the perfect vacation destination for anyone visiting the Pennsylvania area - even if you don't have a sweet tooth to satisfy.

Can I Make Money With Online Gambling?

    Article Presented by:

With the recent surge in popularity of online gambling people are beginning to question its existence. A resurging question is its economic viability. Is it possible to make some money of Online gaming? How lucrative is it and how high are the risks involved?

The answers to those questions are; yes it is possible. It can be very lucrative. And the risk, like most games, depends on a lot of factors.

Is It Possible To Make Some Money Of Online Gaming?

Yes it is possible to make money from online gaming. Doing so will however require, commitment, a bit of study and a lot of mental strength. Take the example of online football betting. If you're a football fan, you must have by now formed some opinion on which team is most likely to win in encounters. From this, it is possible to decide which bets to place and the degree of risk associated with your decision.

Placing a bet that a team like bottom ranked Sunderland will triumph over the World champions Manchester United, whilst possible, is clearly not a safe bet. However, if your hunch does come true the rewards can be worth the risk.

    How Lucrative Is It?

The profitability of online gaming will depend a lot on your willingness to be patient. Success will not come overnight despite all that you have read. Like everything in life, it will require diligence, commitment and a steady growth of talent and skill. You will most probably lose a lot in the beginning. But with patience, your results will improve and consequently your prizes. Talking with people who have older and better experience is also a good idea. They will provide tips and ideas which will come in handy. Keeping updates where necessary (i.e. the status of players in your wagered team) will help provide you with a better outlook at the odds going in.

How High Are The Risks Involved?

It can be quite risky. Gambling has always been an art involving high risk. Nothing has really changed in its online version, but it does present with it a few options. The problem of losing face which used to spur people on in the face of glaring defeat is easily fixed behind the anonymity provided by online gaming. Of course this works both ways. It also means that people are more likely to make rash decisions knowing that their identity is protected from the sneering public. The issue of risk will depend a lot on your decision and choice. Betting small at the beginning is usually a good idea. It will prevent you from taking too hard a hit, whilst providing you with better insight into the mechanics of the game.

In the end, patience will be the deciding factor in determining your results. Whilst it is possible to post huge results in just six months it is more probable that it will take at least a year before you register your first success. So, think long and hard before you make a decision to begin online gaming.

There are high risks involved with gambling online. It can wipe you out, of all your savings in a short time, before you know what you're doing. Before you get involved in online gambling, consider the possibility of losing all your money. Though the money that you're using for your online gambling is not visible and tangible, it is very much what you or your family has worked for.

If you wish to make a professional living out of it, be prepared for surprises and let downs. But if you stick at it and avoid making terribly rash decisions, you may well be pleasantly surprised the next time you pay a visit to your bank.
